QUOTE(kebret @ Jan 13 2013, 11:12 PM) chiller/cooler are basically a heat exchanger....regardless of what u call it lol Yes the terms are interchangeable, function wise. Cooler is actually a part of a chiller package which basically consists of a compressor, condenser, expansion valve and a cooler.

QUOTE(sup_dome @ Mar 13 2013, 11:16 AM) I think what ch_teo means is since you have a degree in Mechanical Eng, you are more suited to the Static & Rotating Eng in O&G and would you like to consider it. For Drilling Engineering, it's a whole different new thing(ok, you can still use your basic Mech Eng knowledge). The only degree really relevant to Drilling Engineering is Petroleum Engineering. Like me myself am a Mech eng graduate but I decided to go to Drilling, which I dont regret cause personally I think it's more interesting than Mech Eng. I can say I suck at Mech Eng knowledge. hehe. Anyway, I know lots of people especially fresh grads dont get the idea of working in O&G. Most of them will be like, when I graduate, I wanna work offshore, with an O&G company, to make money cause they get paid well but they don't really get the whole idea of O&G. I can't disagree that this industry pays good, but I think you should consider what you really wanna do in O&G. I suggest you make some studies about Exploration, Drilling, Production, Processing and Retailing first before you decide to jump into which field. They are totally different. I can tell you I suck at Production and Processing knowledge. And not all O&G job requires you to go offshore. I have a friend with ME background and now a drilling engineer. ME and drilling is related he said. More ME than PE.
