The current skills that are in high demands are those in the Subsurface skills (Geology/Geophysicist/Petroleum Engineering/Reservoir Engineering/ Production Technology/ and not to forget the most in demand of all, Drilling Engineers & Petrophysicist) followe by the surface facilities engineering.

I get calls every couple of weeks from headhunters who probably got my name from LinkedIn and also from word of mouth. The key is networking.

Completion usually falls under the Production Technology skill gorup but then again, different company puts it in Drilling (I know mine does) so it depends.

even i get to know from my friend, petronas has stopped participating in job fairs in monash uni, previously they do.

I think they have field which collaboration with Petronas/AMC called D-21 field at Bintulu

Q1 2013, HUC already completed, now waiting for production well drilling only. Well, refurbished platform.

Where? Usually a TA is for non-degree holder so you cannot expect a high salary.

myhug .... I remembered you were one of the loyal poster in this thread and finally managed to get a position in O&G so get as much experience as you can (go overseas if you have the opportunity). I suspect your line of work involves a lot of hands on and hard work (meaning, dangerous line of work right?) so once you're ready to settle down ... get a girl la and with your experience I'm sure you'll be able to move around in the industry. trust me once you get 5 years in O&G, people couldn't care less about your degree or whatever ... they will only be interested with the skill you acquired on the job.

Passport Malaysia so no expat package .... I've told a lot of companies that if that is the case then they can shove it up their fanny. They spend millions bringing expats to Malaysia but when it comes to local Malaysians, well you just have to send your kids to normal school lah .... screw that.

Contracts ada la offer from 80-120K a month but it will be short term etc and will not be conducive for the family.

There is no weird nor funky ritual like dancing around bonfire that you have to do if you would like to enter O&G. Just like any other industries, all you need to do is to apply or respond to job vacancy ads. If you would like to work offshore, you need to be fit and have a good BMI. Other info (i.e. companies, SOW & etc), you have to read back those previous versions. Some have done it and they find it worth the time.
