QUOTE(azraeil @ Nov 20 2012, 01:13 PM) The current skills that are in high demands are those in the Subsurface skills (Geology/Geophysicist/Petroleum Engineering/Reservoir Engineering/ Production Technology/ and not to forget the most in demand of all, Drilling Engineers & Petrophysicist) followe by the surface facilities engineering. how about completion eng bro?they dont come under the drilling engineer but some how involved in the process and the man to tie up every thing to be ready for production.my thus observation these 2 come together and are always present, only those drilling guys start from the word go to the end.I get calls every couple of weeks from headhunters who probably got my name from LinkedIn and also from word of mouth. The key is networking. drilling is indeed a fascinating subject.the amount of service companies and services involved from every section/size to whats down there all to be discovered and reaped trough. QUOTE(acgerlok7 @ Nov 21 2012, 05:48 PM) oh wow... if im not mistaken only last week there was one job fair at mmu cyberjaya.most big companies in ong was there.a friend of mine got selected for an interview with halliburton.Added on November 21, 2012, 5:49 pmI find that it is quite hard to seek for opportunities here... most of the contractor/vendors/clients has cut down on recruiting on site from uni. even i get to know from my friend, petronas has stopped participating in job fairs in monash uni, previously they do. |

QUOTE(azraeil @ Nov 25 2012, 09:15 PM) Where? Usually a TA is for non-degree holder so you cannot expect a high salary. yeah bro thx.those months of relentless applying, searching, info gathering and to some extent the monetary investment i made paid off.right now im just absorbing it all and am not looking too much into my salary(its not big yet not small, but im happy with what im getting out of the job) that much and just waiting to get those years under my belt.after that i hope to move on the ladder and with more hard work move abroad a few years Added on November 25, 2012, 9:26 pm myhug .... I remembered you were one of the loyal poster in this thread and finally managed to get a position in O&G so get as much experience as you can (go overseas if you have the opportunity). I suspect your line of work involves a lot of hands on and hard work (meaning, dangerous line of work right?) so once you're ready to settle down ... get a girl la and with your experience I'm sure you'll be able to move around in the industry. trust me once you get 5 years in O&G, people couldn't care less about your degree or whatever ... they will only be interested with the skill you acquired on the job. a lot of you guys gave me that encouragement and the know how, my thanks to all of you. btw bro by boarding school does your kids stay with you or they have an hostel or some sort This post has been edited by mhyug: Nov 26 2012, 07:51 AM |

QUOTE(azraeil @ Nov 26 2012, 12:43 PM) Passport Malaysia so no expat package .... I've told a lot of companies that if that is the case then they can shove it up their fanny. They spend millions bringing expats to Malaysia but when it comes to local Malaysians, well you just have to send your kids to normal school lah .... screw that. yep thats m'sian companies.i was kinda taken a back when i first joined my company, and attending the meetings to see our own petronas has soo many expats.made me wonder on what kind of caviar pay roll are they on compared to us locals.Contracts ada la offer from 80-120K a month but it will be short term etc and will not be conducive for the family. |

QUOTE(noruazumi @ Dec 1 2012, 07:36 AM) There is no weird nor funky ritual like dancing around bonfire that you have to do if you would like to enter O&G. Just like any other industries, all you need to do is to apply or respond to job vacancy ads. If you would like to work offshore, you need to be fit and have a good BMI. Other info (i.e. companies, SOW & etc), you have to read back those previous versions. Some have done it and they find it worth the time. haha we might as well dance around the rig floor and hope to have no problems lol.lately is been a intensifying few weeks with every well ive encountered. |

hoh it seems another leg got struck...and this time out at sea.tho not as "tilted" as the one at jurong shipyard.no casualty/injuries and semi-major damage to the jack-up itself.
but none the less is a big obstacle for the client side.service side..well another few days/weeks and if its serious a month of relief time to get the equipments ready. |
