In my opinion, the best way to experience a culture is to do it the backpacker way. It's fine to stay in hotels and all but try to experience as much of the local culture as possible. Walking around is a great way to discover a place.

Camera's are essential la for travelling. Haha all the memories got to be captured. And it's pretty handy to have a travel book guide (Lonely Planet is good)
