I am the kind of guy who gets hungry in the middle of the night and most of the time, the service apartment I stay at only provides a refrigerator and an electric water kettle. I've grown tired of having cup noodles but after a few years of traveling, I found a few more appetizing alternatives:

1. More of the "just add water" cuisine: I normally steer away from cup noodles because dehydrated corn bits are not appetizing. However, there are other varieties, and depending on where you go, you can find things like instant porridge, or honey flavoured nestum.

Preparation: Heat up water in kettle. Add to cup.

2. Pasta: So when I'm craving for real cooked food, I boil some angel hair pasta in the water kettle. Now do remember to keep an eye on the kettle at ALL times because it will over flow. When the bubbles come up, just switch off the kettle, let the pasta sit in the hot water until it is cooked. I specifically mentioned ANGEL HAIR pasta because its thinner and easier to cook than spaghetti or other noodles.

Preparation: Boil angel hair in kettle. Drain water. Mix in sauce (I use Prego) while noodles are still hot. Eat.

3. Fresh fruits: Easy to peel ones like bananas, oranges, apples... you get the idea. Coconuts are absolutely out of the question.

Preparation: Wash. Bite.

4. The cold cut sandwich: Cold cuts are ready to eat. I always check the packaging if it is because I'm dubious about cold meats. Examples of cold cuts: Bologna, smoked or plain turkey ham, etc. Groceries will have this in the chiller section next to the dairy products.

Preparation: You can put your cold cuts straight on your bread, but I like mine warm so I boil the cut in the water kettle till it is nice and hot. I like to use whole wheat breads or french baguettes. Slice that up with my trusty swiss knife, throw on the cold cuts with some olives, fresh lettuce, cheese and mustard. Eat.

Just remember: Its easier to clean the kettle right after you use it.

If you have other ideas, I'd love to read about them here. smile.gif
