I'm counting on them rewriting the app from scratch for wp8. If they didn't then yeah the quality most probably won't be too much different.

I heard it's a rewrite, using native code this time. We'll see.

Your UK set is probably a carrier set which doesn't recognize Celcom. Well, it shouldn't happen, usually it's recognized from SIM card / broadcast. Doesn't matter, as long as you can use.

I'm coming back from London for Christmas break and I've told my parents to pre-order a lumia 920 for me. Told me there's a rm200 deposit and all but when I asked about whether the wireless charger comes with the phone, they weren't sure. So guys, does the wireless charge come with the phone? If not, how much would it be if I were to get a standard wireless charger?
*
No and no idea.

Apparently, local sets come with a purity headphone.

As for wireless charging, wait for its official launch event, which I believe falls on the 21st, to be confirmed.

Ok my bad. Just checked again, it's not Purity. I must have misread. It's a headset, Nokia Headset WH-208. The Purity is else where sad.gif

Edit: Let's hope that they give out Purity / Monster at launch like L900 launch did.

I can't switch to outlook.com because of this

Warning: You might not want to change this email address if you've used it to set up a Windows Phone. On your phone, features that use this address will stop working, including Marketplace, Xbox LIVE, SkyDrive, email, and others. To use these features again on your phone, you'd need to restore it to factory settings, which erases all personal content.

***be extra caution if you have others account associated with your hotmail.com
*
No. You can move on to Outlook.com without having to rename your email address. That way, you get to keep your original Hotmail address and enjoy the new interface. The statement only applies to people who wish to rename their email addresses entirely, like mine, renaming from xxx@hotmail.com to yyy@outlook.com. Yea I had to do a factory reset and download all apps again, but it looks more professional bearing a outlook.com.

In case you or anyone else wishes to rename, do so when it come times to upgrade. It's just a 5 minutes process.

To enjoy the new Outlook interface, all you need to do is logon to your Hotmail, change url to outlook.com. Bam, you'd be using outlook interface.

i dont get the impact of google disabling the Active Sync protocol thingy. WP8 does not support IMAP or POP protocols at all? my company's email is based on IMAP protocol...this could be a problem
*
Google is also doing away with POP3. It will be replaced by self-signed certificates, I don't really know what it means, but meh.

The IMAP from Google isn't an industry standard IMAP protocol. Google has tweaked it so much that Microsoft really has to study (like Apple did) its API in order to implement a Google IMAP on Windows Phone. Standard IMAP protocols are supported on Windows Phone, that's not an issue. Google is a different beast altogether.

i have more than 10apps suspended in background and not even bother to close it. (no lag at all)  if i want to go back to my earlier apps i just hit and hold the back button then scroll between my apps.

here's how windowphone multitasking work

*
On Windows Phone 7.5, you can only have up to 5 apps running at a time. 10 is a little exaggerated LOL.

Anything more than 5 will be terminated in a first open first close basis.

From 7.8 onwards, it's 8 I believe.

Guys, I wanna ask is there a task manager for the WP8 ? As in like how you wanna close and application or switch an application previously open. Thanks
*
There's no need of a task manager like Android requires. All apps are suspended when you navigate away, using minimal resource (simply put, not enough to impact your experience on other apps). So, you don't really need to close an app. You can keep apps running and still won't feel a thing.

ah makes sense. no biggie then. hardly ever get "urgent" emails on my personal mail anyway. Just forward them all to my outlook.com

That's a wise choice rclxms.gif

Afterall, I find Outlook to be more intuitive. It's just so much easier to use compared to Gmail, which hides all the damn buttons after the updates. On top of that, I find Outlook to be more responsive and fluid smile.gif

Guys, I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but from a WP perspective how are the apps doing? I just want to know because i have been an android user for 2 years and I am considering a change to WP8 either this or next year.
So I am not comparing to Android, I am just asking you guys as a potential WP user in the coming months
*
Instead, I'd like to ask back, what apps do you use? That'd be easier for us to answer.

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Dec 20 2012, 12:50 PM)
While it's not a dealbreaker, it shows the "commitment" or lack thereof, of what MS is doing to get its WP8 platform off the ground. They should be going head over heels on pushing updates so that it's on par with the other two mobile platform powerhouses, not employ this "carrier first, others later" tactics.

On Android, I can simply bypass carrier-linked updates and their slow release date, by installing custom ROMs with latest updates built in, there aren't any avenues to do so on WP8. There isn't a problem on iOS as the updates are timely and punctual, so you know what you're getting and most importantly, WHEN you're getting it.

WP8? I'm in for the ride, but the ride doesn't tell you WHEN I'm getting there, if I do get there at all.
*
Well, in case you didn't know, WP8 bypasses carrier and allows OTA updates now. The ball is at the manufacturer's feet. Put simply, as a user, would you rather receive multiple updates (say, you get Portico now and PR1.1 months later) or receive them together and enhance your experience altogether?

In my own view, I expect an update to fix several issues at once, not half ass here and half ass there (again, as an example, I'd really hold a grudge against Nokia if they decide to release Portico now and fix WiFi and months later to fix the camera saturation).

Yeah, well I don't really play alot of games on my device anymore. I guess mostly social apps. Google+.. is it available to on windows phone? I kinda use that alot ....
IS there a google talk app as well?

I kinda use that alot as well.

2ndly, since I have been using a google device, my mail is gmail, and all my contacts are in there. Do i specifically need to create a hotmail account to start the device or can I sign up using my Gmail and will my contacts sync to the phone ?
*
Well, if you truly can't live without Google services, then my advice is to stay there smile.gif

Will do. Just got a new line from Celcom Bluecube in Pavi as well. New phone new line. tongue.gif

Needs 30 minutes to activate. First impression, I absolutely love the heft and solid build. The color scheme(Red black) matches my DROID DNA color scheme nicely too. More impressions later. I not yet eat lunch. tongue.gif

Added on December 20, 2012, 8:04 pmCan't wait to get home. It should work since its the same wireless standards, I got the Panasonic Wireless Qi plate induction wireless charger that is for my DROID DNA. SHOULD be able to charge the Lumia 920 wirelessly as well.

My Panasonic Wireless Qi charger, charging my DROID DNA wirelessly.

Hey stringfellow, what's the 4GB thumb drive you mentioned earlier? Anything special? I'm still contemplating because I'm expecting a full launch very soon which we'll probably get much more out of it.

On WP8 is different, I believe. You can change region anytime (with just a simple select and restart), not sure if it works for Xbox Live games though.

Update: Just dropped by Gardens Mid Valley, grabbed 2 units of 920 rclxms.gif

Nokia store in LYP already stocks screen protector for the Lumia 920. Just got mine, RM25. It's matte but I don't see it messing with the screen clarity much. Finger glides nicely over it and does not affect the screen sensitivity even after I wrapped my finger in cloth and swipe, it still registers.

Did you try with super sensitive touch OFF?
