MIL and SIL all recommended DOM over Yomeishu (didn't really explain why) but apparently the ingredients in DOM are more nourishing for post-natal care.

Price at Yin Onn Midvalley (just bought mine today):

DOM - RM89.80
Yomeishu - RM85

But prices at supermarkets, etc are normally higher. Saw DOM at Jayagrocer for RM108 blink.gif

I think DOM is cheaper than Yomeishu if I am not mistaken. During my first pregnancy, I got my husband to buy a bottle for me everytime he went on an oversea trip. In the end, we stock up so much we couldnt finish. Even when the confinement lady cooked some chinese dishes with it, it was still too much. Due to this, we give away many for friends who just delivered.

Please buy from places like 99 Supermart and not Jaya Grocer la! People said Yomeishu is better but I never tried, only can afford DOM but it was too sweet to be enjoyed with peanuts, so end up in the wok with some chinese cooking only.

Last I bought, DOM was slightly more expensive than Yomeishu. And Yomeishu was extremely cheap in Japan dutyfree.

I think both are fine for confinement depending on the preference. Many people don't like the extreme sweetness of DOM, but I find it ok smile.gif

Yomeishu has better taste. Anyway both can also be taken to promote health, ESP good for women.

not advisable especially for nursing moms, coz what i know is that alcohol will pass straight from consumption to blood to breastmilk directly

my readings thru the internet tells me that the baby will definately get some of the alcohol, heating process will surely evaporate some of the alcohol during cooking, but how much the mom/baby take in is depending on how fast the mother's body absorb... so very hard to estimate

maybe can try cooking without alcohol 1st? substitute with more ginger la

from my ante natal class, you can only drink DOM / Yomeishu / Rice Wine just after you finish breast feed your baby, while the coming feeding time ( 2 - 3 hours later ) the alcohol in your body is still there, but diluted, which you will pass alcohol ( very tiny amount ) to your baby but WILL NOT affect your baby, unless allergy occurs

that also depends on whether after drinking the mother sit/sleep or continue doing other things to burn off more alcohol, so better not to drink for the moment, like i mentioned before, there are many other substitutes for alcohol, more nutritious food, more ginger etc smile.gif
