Care to explain what's the diffrence between soccer and football, irt appears that you understand it much? I beg of you to do so. Pls, looking forward to your reply. No need much excerpts, we know that already. people of one line excerpts are normally one tag line forummers, may I humbly say so. Just observe.

Any football-loving person would NEVER EVER call FOOTBALL, soccer. #fact.

Anywho, on a side note:

Allen and Sterling were Class! Shelvey was pretty good too. Suarez was wasteful. Gerrard is really lacking alot these days (understandably due to his age).
Defence didnt look like playing. Sahin was not here nor there, decent I supposed. Otherwise the team was crap. Take out Allen, Shelvey and Sterling and we would have been trashed.

My 4 cents, of course.

A choice of words. a person that uses the word soccer doesn't mean that he's any less football loving than the rest. Pls provide details and explanation to #fact. Thanks.

It's like calling God (any respective God) 'God', and 'Spiritual Being'.

You dont see people in churches going, 'Bless us owh Spiritual Being'.

Calling Football, soccer, is like calling American Football, 'hand-egg'.

It does show (tho not determinative) a level of respect and passion.

but we really don't want to go into a debate over linguistics now do we?
*
Let's not equate with American football, they may not have a different name for the game, i could be wrong and to call it 'hand egg' would be disrespectful and I wouldn't even think of doing so out of respecft for the game. As what I've said earlier it's really a choice of word, it we don't like the word football or soccer, we can also describe the game as ... "a game comprising of 2-teams with 11 players on each side with 2-goal post and a ball and .........." that'll be mouthful.

I wouldn't even wanna start to debate on the term, as far as I understnd it means the same until one Mr. Know Everything about soccer, oops football ..... comes round with all the football knwoledge with a one line comment. Have a nice day. smile.gif

Bro., it's really a choice of words, you feel like it you can use football or if have a mood swing you can also use soccer. They means the same, there's nothing wrong with it. I use football and soocer from time to time, no fix time or occassion to do that. Cheers.

Well, to some (especially Englishmen), to call it 'soccer' is disrespectful. Perspective.

Let's not digress from the core of the issue. The point of discussion here is, are both terms mean the same thing? And by having 2-different terms here, would the game be played in similar fashion? If the answer is yes, we're simply debating over a non-existent issue here, more of pride than anything. If the answer is a big NO, then we do really have to have a serious discussion over it. Lol.

Irrespective of what the English believes in or their preference of the term football over soccer as what you've suggested so, I have nothing except respect for what the English .... oops maybe I should say the British believes in, they have their good reasons to be so, moreso they have been passionately attached to the game for more than a century and it would be suicide to now ask them to call it soccer.

But the same that cannot be said that others must follow suite and use the term football, if they choose or prefer the word soccer over football. Not sure on your opinion of being disrespectful by using the term football. I do join some other football forums out of leisure, I believe they're mainly UK based forums and i chose to use both words at random and I don't get any reaction at all from the forummers, looks like we're more British than the British here.

Just the other day not too long ago, this ang-moh fren said to me ... "hey, i'll be late for the event i'll need to take the 2-boys to school for a soccer match" and i jokingly I asked .... "Football is it?," reply I got was ..... "pal you sounds more English than me, ho ho ho". Lol.

Nevertheless, you may wanna google espn.soccer.com and espn.football.com and sees what comes out of it.

Cheers and have a nice day.

My personal opinon, Drogba would be quite unlikely. He's already in the last leg of his career and he's likely out to make the best out of the remaining years in him, monetary wise and not so much of chasing over more honours. He would have sticked to Chelsea if he is looking for more honours. It's as good as asking Samuel E'too to go back to Barcelona now while he's driving the latest Bugatti.

The unlikely scenario of Owen joining us is fast becoming likely in view of current circumstances. Yeah, we're still bitter over him joining MU, who wouldn't. But, we may also need to be fair to Mikey to reflash back all those years that Benitez had no place for him in the squad and he joined Real, instead of going on a free the season after.

When Real released him, he was desperate to come back to us and Stevie did some serious brokering with Benitez but to no avail and he must have been heart broken then and he joined MU instead. Let's also be fair minded, he has bills and commitments to take care of and their wages and/or commitements whichever way we look at it comes in thousands every week and he can't be without football at all. Sentiments doesn't come into the equation in this case.

Ok, I'd take it as tit for that, all things being equal now I'd say no love lost I'd certainly welcome him back with open arms, it's becoming to look more like we need him as much as he needs us.

I can't forget those Benitez years where he single handedly destroyed defences and he was left alone to score most of the goals, and score he did and never a moment he moaned about it.

He will not be a long term solution but good enough till Jan and as back-up where we can look at other options. Say anything about him but he gave LFC his best playing years and I'm looking forward to some kind of a reunion before he bid us farewell.
