Hi all, just bought 128GB Samsung SSD from someone here, everything seems to work perfectly, OS installation, boot up etc. Just one thing, I'm using DELL 990SSF, before adding the SSD, the RAID screen never came up during boot, just an annoyance since it is working great. Couldn't seem to switch to AHCI, whenever I switch the BIOS, it just wouldn't boot. Did few tricks, fixing the BCD etc but won't budge. Anyway, TRIM is enabled when I checked, so all is okay I guess (or is it not?).

QUOTE(OC4/3 @ Nov 24 2012, 06:13 PM) Err AHCI should be quite easy Just enable AHCI driver & reboot the pc?? Not that easy, did that and I couldn't boot. I couldn't restore factory image to my SSD either, so I did a fresh installation and that requires me to call up Microsoft to activate the Win7Pro. I've boot up into command mode, using bootrec to fix boot record but it doesn't work either. I'm trying not to reinstall Win7 and if nothing can be done, I guess I just need to live with that little annoyance. Read about AHCI as subset of RAID, so I hope it is okay.

QUOTE(freakenstein @ Nov 25 2012, 05:57 PM) Hi. It is highly possible that you installed your OS with a different mode that is why you can't boot into AHCI mode now. I had this problem too and fixed it just a few hours ago lol. Not to worry , there's of course a fix. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Just rechecked the registry, the value is already set to 0. So, I believe AHCI has been set correctly.

@chinkw1,
For me, I replaced them straight away. You can feel hell lot of different experience after going to SSD.
Do not clone the existing HD, reinstall the OS on the SSD. No point wasting your precious space with unneeded stuff.

QUOTE(chinkw1 @ Nov 27 2012, 07:20 PM) After physically replace the HD with SSD, how to fresh install Windows to SSD from HD (hidden partition) ? Check if your notebook comes with installation DVD, if not, check if you could create an installation DVD from the recovery software. Most recovery software has someway to create installation DVD. If else failed, you may want to download the OS image file from Microsoft server, you may need to use phone-in to do reactivation. This post has been edited by wiraone: Nov 27 2012, 07:31 PM
