AHCI supports TRIM and faster than IDE.
IDE mode :
read seq. : 255,1
write seq : 91.61
read 512k : 169.3
write 512k : 91.11
read 4k : 23.80
write 4k : 64.17

AHCI mode :
read seq. : 268,8 (+ 5.37%)
write seq : 90,43 (-1.29%)
read 512k : 205,2 (+21,20% !!!)
write 512k : 90,82 (-0.32%)
read 4k : 24.02 (+ 0.92%)
write 4k : 66.41 (+ 3.49%)

thanks
so TRIM also require AHCI mode... sad.gif
so sad my P35+ICH9 board no AHCI mode

hello everyone
just got my hands on the M5S 128gb, now selling slightly below 300 i think it's a good buy atm

installed everything into it, plugged back old hdd but now storage only.

feels quick, now the slowest part is the BIOS during boot up

still using intel e8400 + p35 combination, so no ahci mode for now, but checked "fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify" it returns "0", which means TRIM is enabled

Hello guys,

So I've bought the Plextor M5S few days ago, the installation was fine, same goes to the OS. The speed was good as I expected as well.

But there's slightly some problem which I don't know whether it's the OS or the SSD.
So here's the problem:

1. I left the PC for 30 minutes, when I came back, my PC was completely shut-down without my knowing.
2. After I realized the PC was shut-down, I turned it back on, when it log in to my windows, my whole Window Start Bar froze...the Antivirus and stuff won't load up which made me forced to re-start it. After restart, the problem was gone. But I'm sure it'll be back soon.

Is there anyway to fix these issues? sweat.gif

i fresh install into my m5s yesterday, face same problem too soon after that

just because i forgot to do this:

The SSD Optimization Guide
http://thessdreview.com/ssd-guides/optimiz...zation-guide-2/

after i did that (not all, only necessary ones), it's smooth sailing thumbup.gif

Thank you for the fast reply,

I'm glad that It can be fixed without RMA it...you said only the necessary one, could you define necessary one?  blush.gif
*
up to your own preference, like enable/disable boot gui, shutdown time, etc..

QUOTE(1024kbps @ Apr 19 2013, 12:58 AM)
It's damn cheap already, but Singapore still selling it at RM350 (149SGD) tongue.gif
128GB is sweetspot imho, i bought the 256GB version but can't really utilize the space much, even installed 3 OSs on it , unless install games,
now The SSD is left to collect dust until i bought a new Wifi adapter(Windows 8 serious driver problem lol) doh.gif

Back then the Kingston 96GB cost almost same price as the 256GB m5pro lol.
*
don't think the price is an issue for singaporean blush.gif
disposable income for singaporean should be more than an average malaysian (at least in my mind)

i am going to install windows 8 soon, what's with the serious driver problem?

QUOTE(goldfries @ Apr 19 2013, 01:39 AM)
ehhh, why did you have to do that?

my Intel 330 and Kingston 300 series both need not have me do anything.

Just booted Windows CD and install away just like any other drive.
*
some things like enable/disable recovery, enable/disable hdd shut down after some time should be tweaked
yes, just direct install windows w/o tweaks also works
one problem i face is it'll shut itself down (ssd) after some time, which should be 'tweaked' inside windows settings.

QUOTE(1024kbps @ Apr 19 2013, 02:34 AM)
There are easier way to do that, its a software called "SSD Tweaker" lol.
Yeah by default no need to tweak anything, Windows 7 will regconize SSD and optimize it right way after installing.
Unless user cloned the OS from HDD to SSD, then may be tweaking is necessary.
*
is it? will try that s/w l8r smile.gif

For me it's not, im malaysian working on there lol  sweat.gif
Thats the specific wifi adapter issue, TPLINK, even the stable version of driver will cause windows 8 to reset the usb hub everytime when uploading some large file, every damn time, 100% reproducible, windows 8 has been out for 6 months already they have yet to fix the problem.
*
mine was tplink too, wifi adapter, plugged into pci-e on my mobo, yours too?
if that so guess that i'll be using win7 for now

hrm. my machines 24/7 on, no shutdown itself pun. sure not BIOS issue?

those recovery / shutdown are Windows settings. smile.gif that's more like tweak Windows for any drive rather SSD specific, no?
*
frankly speaking, i don't know
perhaps it is windows settings, just like tell the window do not go into sleeping or hibernate mode
don't think has anything to do with tinkering the ssd itself

see, i just joined the ssd club days ago, and the first thing i did was read the 1st post, and just follow what i saw blush.gif

If Crucial one is cheaper, just buy loh, performance wise Samsung SSD are faster, but also more pricey if i recall correctly.
Normal user should always chose cheaper with larger capacity, no need to go for extreme performance, it's not like  5 or 10 second faster could change your life or something.
*
agree, no need to think so much
just get the best RM/GB ones

ran as ssd benchmark last night, my ssd bottlenecked by my hardware: P35+ich9 mobo, got sata/300 only, and on ide mode

read: 230
write: 200

my ssd is plextor m5s 128gb

but still faster than my hdd smile.gif

wd green 1tb: read:90, write:70
portable hdd: read:28, write:20

Refer to the post above this
Peak transfer don't mean a jack in 99% of typical end user scenario
*
i see
i do not mean that ssd is useless with p35, or "hey no point switching to ssd because only tat much difference", i'm just trying to say it will not perform at it's max transfer speed as advertised, which of course, i know im not on sata3, which it is supposed to be on sata3
but still, booting, alt-tabbing, and all other windows operation is significantly smoother than before, this, no need benchmark s/w also can see one

ssd all the way from now on (well, at least the boot drive blush.gif)

Unless you connect the drive on a SATA II port, otherwise there's no bottleneck by using the mobo you've stated...well not that I can think of.
*
only for read speed i suppose

just saw at the box of my plextor ssd, the sequential write is 200, which is exactly what i got with my sata II port blush.gif
