i fresh install into my m5s yesterday, face same problem too soon after that

just because i forgot to do this:

The SSD Optimization Guide
http://thessdreview.com/ssd-guides/optimiz...zation-guide-2/

after i did that (not all, only necessary ones), it's smooth sailing thumbup.gif
ehhh, why did you have to do that?

my Intel 330 and Kingston 300 series both need not have me do anything.

Just booted Windows CD and install away just like any other drive.

Plextor using marvell controller, which it's good at reliability, while other SSD like OCZ, Corsair etc using SandForce, which it's good at performance but stability wise....not so much...
regarding Sandforce stability - in the past they had issues but now even Intel drives use them.

Here's a good article by Plextor that compares the differences http://shop.plextoramericas.com/blog/2012/...ssd-controller/

*take it with a pinch of salt though. IMO as long as they work, it's fine. I don't think one could actually tell the difference.

Like I stated below:
I'm having some problem after the installation, but after the tweaks all is fine...for now. Will update if anything happens.

i saw your post. your problem is one thing but I'm referring to the URL in which the tweaks required to run well.

my SSD so far all don't need tweaking and run fine.

As for this...I read the reviews from neweggs, overclockers forum, anandtech, etc...loads of users complained about sandforce controllers for being shitty, even now too. The reason I bought the m5s it's because of the $$$, and I prefer reliability first performance second.

I saw the M5S but when I was shopping 2 weeks back, went for Kingston for a few reasons

1. disti
2. known brand

furthermore I had no time to research on Plextor.

now the question is - just because they're on OCer forums / anand - are their comments reliable? sometimes it's just n00b users.

both my SSD are Sandforce, no issues. I don't think Intel would go Sandforce on their SSD if it was not reliable to begin with.

some things like enable/disable recovery, enable/disable hdd shut down after some time should be tweaked
yes, just direct install windows w/o tweaks also works
one problem i face is it'll shut itself down (ssd) after some time, which should be 'tweaked' inside windows settings.
hrm. my machines 24/7 on, no shutdown itself pun. sure not BIOS issue?

those recovery / shutdown are Windows settings. smile.gif that's more like tweak Windows for any drive rather SSD specific, no?

About the pricing, difference is not much I find. 120GB Intel 330 vs 120GB Kingston 120 V300 and 128GB Plextor.

During the time of my purchase, the Kingston is the one without setup kit. priced similarly to the Plextor while Intel is a bit more but with kit.

Stability wise, my Kingston V300 is on Windows 7 work rig. Intel 330 is on Windows 8 gaming rig. Till date no problem whatsoever.

Those facing problem could be just confined to particular batch perhaps.
