joining you guys, but i made the silly mistake of plugging my ssd into sata 3gb/s port then i was wondering why the heck is my ssd only reaching 300 mb/s read/write which is still really fast. Hopefully when i get back i will fix it.

And my windows score finally changed from 5.9 to 7.6. now only limited by my processor lol.

Another thing, it boots so fast when it reaches the windows 7 logo, the logo kind of loads then is just skipped cause its so fast lol.

Love my ssd, well worth the monies!

Yes, after changing my sata port from 3gb/s to 6gb/s. Check out this benchmark:

Just got my Intel 520 yesterday, ran some benchmark, the read speed seems normal, but the write speed seems to be capped at 485mb/s any ideas?

looks normal. maybe your ssd is getting full, so its slightly slower? My corsair is good though, 30 gb free. and still getting read 550 mb/s and write 515mb/s.

Planning on getting my first 'high-performance' (supposedly better than normal HD, never used an SSD to boot Windows!)

Care to recommend me some super fast SSD?  smile.gif

Purpose:
- Boot Windows on it
- Play games on it (high-end games), not too many maybe max take up 150Gb
- Usual computing stuff (movies, music, web, etc.)
- Planning on getting Win 8 and starting fresh on it

Maximum price RM1k... that's it, not any higher. So far from the review I've read (and since forgotten), Intel's SSD are generally solid performers.

intel perform well, but if you want fast, consider getting my drive. Its amazing. And it comes in RED!

Is it like the highest performing SSD out there... planning on getting 240Gb at least.
*
expensive >.<. even mine cost rm 440..240gb is not worth it imo. 120 gb is the sweet spot for now.

What if I can get a 500Gb sata2 for <1k, is smsg 830 256Gb at rm650 (as stated above) a good alternative?
Maybe 500Gb is overkill, u never know how much u need it untill u really needs it, rite?!?

do i need to fresh install of windows if i buy new SSD ?
kinda hassle to install everything again
*
yes, cause if you clone your old hdd, windows wont enable stuff like TRIM for your SSD. Whereas if you clean install than windows will auto detect your ssd and install the required stuff like TRIM.
