QUOTE(everling @ Oct 30 2012, 06:09 PM) It probably won't be worth it. If you do go up to RM419, you should then strongly consider the 330 180GB that goes for RM429. On a 60GB SSD, you will be quite limited in the number of programs or games that you can install on the SSD. Since SSDs are still quite expensive, having a lot of storage capacity is still quite valuable. i guess i will go for 330 180gb thenFor example, Windows 7 and Program Files will take about 20GiB. Diablo III takes another 12GiB. And a 60GB SSD has only 55GiB of actual capacity, leaving you with only 23GiB of free space for other stuff. With a 120GB or a 180GB SSD, you will have more space to install more games and other programs. On the other hand, I wouldn't recommend the average user to buy more than 256GB, unless they know they need more. Best to reserve SSDs for OS and programs and store your data on HDDs. but where u found RN429 ? i did a search on gs, managed to find lowest 440 only |

add me to the user list , intel 330 180gb
1st time on SSD, came to this decision after 5 of my hard disk went dead throughout the years on my rig, it's an old C2D P45 rig btw. Added on November 5, 2012, 8:57 pm QUOTE(OC4/3 @ Nov 4 2012, 01:34 PM) Nope,my 80GB is just good enough for OS erm, is 180gb considered large ?For larger SSD,make one partition call fast data to store data that you frequently used For storage,i use my HDD This post has been edited by ZeneticX: Nov 5 2012, 08:57 PM |

QUOTE(everling @ Nov 5 2012, 09:54 PM) Welcome to the club. i don't think my PSU is that bad, gigabyte odin 800w...Bad PSUs or electrical supply are more likely to kill HDDs. Is yours a good one? can not partitioning HDD into several partitions be the cause ? i tend to do that for all my 500gb and 1tb hdd until recently i realized what could've probably caused all the trouble that's why i was asking on previous reply whether i should partition my ssd, to avoid same mistake, or just to be safe btw i should set the settings to AHCI in my bios for the ssd to unleash its full potential right ? an info to those planning to install or already installed windows 8 on SSD, sorry if posted before
STORAHCI had replaced MSAHCI starting from windows 8. so if you wanna check whether your AHCI is enabled and working under regedit, look for the value under STORAHCI. you won't be able to find MSAHCI |

QUOTE(how5day @ Nov 14 2012, 04:55 PM) Ooh this thread is soooo tempting, after reading many many posts from you all.. I decided to buy intel 330 180GB very soon, fresh install is always the best optionGoing to do fresh install as many of you recommended, but jz wondering, is there anyone tried cloning windows from hdd to ssd then install again windows in ssd, this method will make windows optimise itself for ssd onot? Hahaha but before that do remember to enable AHCI in your motherboard bios 1st |

QUOTE(jazzkobis @ Nov 26 2012, 02:15 AM) i do it right after i plug in my ssd (no OS yet) into my pc. just go do bios and enable it, after that reboot, you will see a screen where the AHCI drivers are loaded (diff mobo may vary). then i only install the OSand again for those who wanna use/change to Win 8, the registry value is StorAHCI This post has been edited by ZeneticX: Nov 26 2012, 04:19 PM |

QUOTE(aLpHa-Ev7 @ Nov 30 2012, 05:45 PM) without a battery backed cache, any disk drive (HDD or SSD) will have the likelihood of data corruption in an event of a power failure. if lets say i set in my desktop power options to turn off the hard disk (SSD in this case) after 20 mins idle, will it be affected, if the power outage occur after 20 mins i leave my comp.A SSD Nand-flash must fully complete an in-progress program (write) operation to ensure the data is stored properly within the NAND cell, so if halfway power got cut, you may experience some data loss/corruption. |
