Hi All, I'm new to SSD Today I bought this: It cost me SGD 265, hope I didn't get over charged. And I planned to install it with my up coming Win 8 pro, so now will wait for a while (few days time) until my Win 8 Pro came, although itchy hands but doing formatting twice is big headache!

Hi all,
Me new to SSD here, I just installed my new Intel Series 335, and I notice it still run in IDE mode instead of AHCI. Refer to the optimizing link posted in first page, looks like I can change it in my bios for better performance. My question is:
I'm using a normal harddisk as my secondary storage, but my motherboard only has 1 option for this. My question is, if I change it to AHCI for my SSD, will that affect my secondary harddisk?

QUOTE(sniperwolf @ Nov 7 2012, 12:50 PM) From what I know changing to AHCI from ide will only affect your booting drive if your os was installed while in ide mode. other storage drive wont had any differences, at least that what I experienced. that clear my doubt and relief my worried, thanks! Btw the way, if it 'affect' your booting drive (in mine, and most of the case in this thread), the SSD, it simply increase the performance, without causing any software problem right? (Sorry for the dumb question, really new to all these settings ) This post has been edited by Vorador: Nov 7 2012, 03:12 PM

QUOTE(everling @ Nov 7 2012, 09:51 PM) Added on November 7, 2012, 9:53 pmDid you confirmed that you have switched to AHCI? Because that indicates you're still on IDE mode. I did that in my CMOS... so do I need to do the registry thingy? (base on the optimization guide on first page) May I know if most of you guys do it in registry or just CMOS enough?

boring man, my windows 8 just wont start after I switch to AHCI mode from bios. I found some tweaking from internet but it won't work at all, looks like i have no choice but to re-format & reinstall my win 8 on SSD again... (Good that I only install for 2 days, nothing much there...)

QUOTE(zhiyuan @ Nov 9 2012, 01:40 AM) so your recommandation? intel ? 520 330 ? why not 335? Great value and 3 years warranty. (Although it only has 240G at this moment) I'm very satisfied with this.

AHA! Finally I resolve the stupid IDE-AHCI issue. The way to edit the registry is slightly different in Windows 8, so for all the friends out there who installed Windows 8 and did not enable AHCI first, here's the solution: - Go to Regedit, look for " storahci" - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci - Double click to expand it, and DELETE the entire "StartOverride". - Restart your comp into Bios. - Enable the AHCI mode. - ENJOY!

QUOTE(ZeneticX @ Nov 14 2012, 03:02 AM) an info to those planning to install or already installed windows 8 on SSD, sorry if posted before STORAHCI had replaced MSAHCI starting from windows 8. so if you wanna check whether your AHCI is enabled and working under regedit, look for the value under STORAHCI. you won't be able to find MSAHCI and one more thing, editing the value directly in storahci no longer works. U need to edit the value or simply delete entire "StartOverride" folder under storahci before go to bios screen.

(Using Intel SSD 335)

QUOTE(storm88 @ Jan 25 2013, 09:51 AM) Actually you could try disable some of the features in the bios to speed up the boot time. Like 3rd party -non used controller, and LAN boot(some board will start up the driver upon boot up) wow never though of that... gotta poke around in the bios again...

QUOTE(BlueDream2 @ Jan 25 2013, 10:45 AM) the function useless ni bios like...... post manufacturing logo.... wait to press F1... set to 1sec... and do some twaek at windows... like use all core time boot.... i already disable the manufacture logo long ago, the most useless thing ever. Now i'm thinking anything else I can disable for the controller thingy mentioned in your previous post. btw I think windows should be ok, using Win8 now and the loading time for windows is almost instant. However, in some restart case, it might take up to 5 seconds for windows loading.

QUOTE(MrFay @ Jan 25 2013, 01:23 PM) How to disable the manufacture logo? In boot option? Btw, i noticed there is this 'initializing intel boot agent GE' during booting..what is it? I can hardly remember how I did mine for all mobo have different setting. But if not mistaken, in your CMOS, should have a general option which allows u to turn off that screen.

QUOTE(riku2replica @ Apr 5 2013, 12:12 PM) U have highlighted the main point. Obviously it reduces your boot time and reduces your game/application load time since it is blazing fast. I think I use it wrongly, I only put O/S, and other essential program in SSD, like MS office, Photoshop... etc. Game wise, all installed in my nomal 7200rpm harddisk...
