i would like to buy 1 ssd for my dad's old thinkpad x61, the BIOS only support sata 1 but can bios hack to support sata 2. anyone know where can buy used old ssd? i dun think anyone selling sata 1 or 2 brand new adi lol.

Any recommendation of SSD for Lenovo y580? Budget ~rm350. ALso if I upgrade/ dual Hdd my new laptop will the warranty void?

I plan to build a new rig, with SSD + conventional HDD together.
SSD for OS & games, HDD for torrent & storage.

If I set my torrent default download directory on HDD, then DL 24/7 (almost), will the SSD be stressed? (constant read/write?)

Hi all, just bought 128GB Samsung SSD from someone here, everything seems to work perfectly, OS installation, boot up etc. Just one thing, I'm using DELL 990SSF, before adding the SSD, the RAID screen never came up during boot, just an annoyance since it is working great. Couldn't seem to switch to AHCI, whenever I switch the BIOS, it just wouldn't boot. Did few tricks, fixing the BCD etc but won't budge. Anyway, TRIM is enabled when I checked, so all is okay I guess (or is it not?).

Yup, the registry is for AHCI. Then theoretically it should be able to boot in AHCI (in BIOS) as well.

In Windows 7 environment:
It's always recommended to to do fresh installation in IDE mode and subsequently enable AHCI in regsitry then in BIOS.

I'm using corsair Force 3 120GB RM340 from i-Store @ Publika.

It's fast now but when I run the Black Magic speed test, the speed is around write 104.5MB/s and read 178.3MB/s. I'm expecting the speed is around 200MB/s and above. Verified the Link Speed / Negotiated Link Speed is 6 Gigabit tho. Not sure if this normal. A bit disappointed.

I bought an INTEL 60GB and reformmated my OS.

Apparently when it boots windows/shutdown I don't see an apparent difference compare to my old SATA.

Is there like a benchmark to test that my SSD is actually faster?

And do I require to install some certain software to boost the speed?

Guy, is it worth to add rm200 just to get the 2 years additional warranty? Any significant speed increment when you use 520 intel over 330?

Prefer RM 300, max is RM 350. My laptop only has SATA2 so don't feel like spending too much on it to not feel any difference.

After experiencing Vertex 4 on my desktop, hell yes Since my laptop is only used for uni work, I figured a 120/128gb SSD would be just nice and boost the startup speed.

but my mobo SATA 2, Inter 330 series SATA 3, won't that caused only minor increment in boot speed?

Just got the Intel 330 120GB for RM300. Out of stock everywhere. Was told very limited due to shortages in the market. Some are quoting RM390.

Instant applications launch compared to HDD and boot time has been cut down significantly from 50secs to almost 13secs now on my Mountain Lion. Best RM300 spent this year.
