Hi guys (and ladies as well), I'm in desperate need of some sound advice. I'm from Mech Eng background and I once applied for Shell internship but by the time they responded, I had already accepted another company.

Today, I received a call to go for an interview in my hometown of Miri, stated that they were offering me an employment chance. I have to go for a 2-days interview, and some technical presentation at the end. And that they have my records from my previous application so I no longer need to go for the first round interview.

Has anyone gone through a similar thing? How is the interview like? I mean, 2 days? What's on the menu? Anything?

wow 2 days interview, which means the hotel accomodation and other expenses will be provided right?

I recently go for SITI interview in cyberjaya and the interview all is verbal presentation of your skills. The HR people didn't explain to you whats is the schedule of the interview since it was so long? Maybe you should try to contact them to get the detail.

All the best to your interview, and please update us the status. Thats interesting to know what is the interview going on for that 2 days rclxms.gif rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

Nope, I'm forking out travel expenses myself. So far from the phone conversation, the first day will start from 2pm to 6pm whereas the following day will be a full day, whereby I need to do a technical presentation at the end of the day. Seems very heavy duty. Anyone had a similar prior experience with Shell? Any info provided would be very much appreciated.

Maybe because your travel is not so far thats why they are not giving you the allowances.

After the next day of the interview i already get the offer to be relocate to cyberjaya. Yippeee icon_rolleyes.gif
Sorry that i can't provide much information to you since we work in different field and my interview only last 3 hours.

The position you are applying sure is high rank since need to do presentation. Hope soon we may have chance to work together. nod.gif

I don't think it has anything to do with high rank or not, but maybe because our disciplines are different. Congratulations on having such a quick reply and a fast start on your career.

I received the e-mail regarding some details of the interview and it's quite an interesting read:

Day 1 (afternoon session) comprises of :
-numerical test
-practise exercise
-Introduction to some background info regarding case study and group study exercises

Day 2 (full day):
-Case Study
-Group exercise
-Business Scenario Interview
-Technical Assessment

These are just the summary of the itinerary. For example when they state Group Exercise, it's actually further broken down into small group presentation; large group presentation; and assessment presentation. This applies to the other tasks whereby there are subtasks within each major task.

Can anyone share their experiences? Any ideas what is meant by a numerical test?

should be IQ, maths and general knowledge test.

Maths is a bit vague. I mean it could be algebra and calculus, statistics and probability, numerical methods....etc...

Where will you be based at? KL or outstation?
*
I will actually be based in Miri, Sarawak. I'll undergo a one year probation and training before a high possibility transfer to a offshore location (also in the East Malaysia vicinity) as I was told several plants are lacking support.

Ladies and Gents,

SRD will be the last round of the recruiting process. After that, if things turn out well, you will join the Shell organization.

For freshies like myself, you will be placed under a DEVELOP programme and regardless of discipline, your basic pay will be the same.

A word of advice during the SRD: 1) Be yourself. 2) Enjoy the experience.

Honestly, there's no point pretending to be anyone else but who you are. Be honest about the replies. The session is not "killer" but you will be somewhat "drained". There are no right or wrong questions, just to basically see how your mind works and how you solve problems.

And YES, technical careers are based in Lutong, Miri. But that doesn't mean you don't get to travel alot. For those who will be visiting Miri and need some guide or last minute ditch effort for advice, just leave me a PM and let's see if I'm in town.

Cheers~

EDIT:

Just to add, Miri, albeit being a city, really isn't much of a city to start with. It's designed to cater for those who want a slow-paced life, 60km/hr driving (on the fast lane sometimes), no traffic jams, no kick-ass night clubs, no fancy Red/Green Box K-joints, no GSC/TGV/MBO...only cineplexes...BUT beautiful sunsets, nature trails, relatively nearby national parks which hosts the State's natural treasures...

Having said that, I believe it's the company you hang out with more than where you hang out. The people are relatively more polite and you will be able to mingle with colleagues and peers soon enough (there is an internal community service to ensure everyone fits in).
