Yes there are positions for industrial hygienists. It's more towards the manufacturing side however. Don't know if they have openings in Malaysia, particularly for a fresh grad.

No trick, it happens throughout Shell, it's their standard. You just have to be hired...

anybody able to tell me how is the outsourcing transition going in SHELL now ?
*
Salaries are mostly the same, some got raises. Benefits are almost exactly the same. Lots of sign on bonuses for some people but I think they cap it at RM50k or RM75k total, can't remember which biggrin.gif I think for the next 6-12 months or so there won't be major changes.

I personally am looking forward to it, Shell seems too complacent for me.

how soon can we expect vista landing into our GID laptops?
*
Vista on an old laptop is painful my friend. Stability is not an issue, it's performance that's lacking. Heck even people with dual core laptops and 2GB memory sometimes have issues that I can't decipher. I don't see why you're looking forward to using it biggrin.gif I wish they'd just stuck with XP sometimes. Oh ETA sometime in 2009.

For the first interview, i read through the previous replies and it seems that a topic will be given. What do they expect us to elaborate? advantages, disadvantages, causes, effect and so on?
*
silverwave, in my experience at least they want to see how you analyze the situation/topic given. Think global was one advice that was given to me. If you're given a situation to analyze you'd want to think from your point of view, the company's, the customer, the general public, the media, your supporters, your detractors, etc.

The interview was hard but I thoroughly enjoyed it biggrin.gif

is it helping if we know somebody from inside n pass the resume to them?

asking just out of curiosity.. n that somebody wud be a managerial position in HR. can anyone answer me?

or need to submit through the net as well..?
*
In my experience, having someone in Shell refer you will help you from being weeded out automatically by the system. However you will still have to go through the proper interview channels and you will still have to pass the interviews. Shell has a nice employee referral program so if the position you're applying for is in the list then your friend will get the US$1800 bonus or however much the referral program pays now.

However your friend is in HR so there are strict rules against HR and management referring anyone for a job (conflict of interest). Shell is very strict in this so if I were in the HR position I don't want to be involved. There are other less risky ways of getting into Shell biggrin.gif Good luck!

ehrm..
juz wanna ask whether shell does sponsor any professional paper to their employees? ie. ACCA, CPA,etc? for accounting of course..
*
I don't know about accounting but I've known colleagues who were certified for CISSP, PMP, Prince2 etc. So they do sponsor certifications in general.

If you get accepted in the Shell graduate program there should be no difference in base salary whether you're engineering or business degree, however your allowances may be different depending on where you are.

Last I checked many many months ago the base salary was RM2600, no idea about revisions. Shell does have 2 months contractual bonus and you typically get 1-3 months of performance bonus too.

Any kind souls willing to share on the economic benefits of working with Shell? I mean apart from the high salary, what else does Shell offer?

So far I know of the following:-
-1/6th of basic salary for West Malaysians working in the East
-RM 350 transport allowance
-RM 1500 accommodation allowance
-1 time pay-off of RM3500 for settling down in the East (West Malaysians only)

What about the yearly bonus? And there are rumours of a Shell credit card to employees? How many percent is the usual yearly increment? Any help with housing or car loans?
Thanks, to any kind souls willing to share!
*
I've probably listed this down somewhere but here goes:

- yearly bonus is a complicated formula and it depends on performance/job group/etc. For younger chaps assume 2+ months of pay.
- no Shell credit card, they say go apply for the Citibank Shell card biggrin.gif
- yearly increment is tied to your performance/job group/etc. Average is 3-5% of base pay.
- loans = they have loan benefits but it's in flux and may change. I personally don't care for the loans, I much prefer more money biggrin.gif

Other benefits that most people don't know or not aware of:
- 4-7% EPF top up
- share plan with automatic bonus top up
- damn good employee referral plan. Refer an employee successfully and get lots of money
- very strong development program. If you're a "talent" then more power to you biggrin.gif

What sucks:
- very

absolute, yes they hire non technical graduates as well. Get into the SRD and show what you're made of. SRD is a lot about communications and critical thinking.

Then what is the point for one to going through SRD and accepting something which one does not enjoys?
*
The Shell graduate rotation program is there for you to learn about the job but more importantly about the company. Shell is a big corporation consisting of many small companies and each company is slightly different from each other. You're not stuck in any one position for long, even after your graduate rotation program, you are almost required to switch positions every 3-5 years so that you're not stagnant.

So if you're good enough to pass the SRD and get an offer then I think you'll survive in Shell. No need to worry about not enjoying what you're doing.

anyway, i'm an environmental engineering major and wandering what type of job i can do in shell (other than HSE dept.).
*
Good job in passing the SRD. Shell will not put you in a position based on your major, you'll be in a rotation program for 3 years before you decide where you want to go. Even then you're not stuck in one position. I've known IT majors doing retail marketing and risk management, business majors doing development etc. These were the kids who were part of the graduate rotation program and they chose those roles themselves because they wanted to. In other words don't think of Shell as a company that will pigeonhole you in a particular position only because that's your chosen major.

As toughnut said, don't embarrass yourself before doing your own research. Many of the posters here work/worked for Shell, myself included and what you stated is just exaggerated.

Recently I received an invitation for phone interview from shell. Is the question listed from previous post(around 2009-2007) here still applicable today?..wonder why they still want to hire IT background person. As I know, all of SITI has been outsourced.
*
Not all of SITI has been outsourced although the jobs left aren't particularly interesting, plus business IT functions are still being handled by the business. However due to cost savings on Shell's side, some benefits have been seriously curtailed.
