A small pekan wth few wooden shoplots in late 80's & early 90's... now suddenly booming town that even Hatyai can't offered. Within walking distance away from Bkt Kayu Hitam

Warning for those thinking of Driving to Thailand:

QUOTE(KooNKHaR @ Feb 22 2013, 12:23 PM)
hi guys,

this is regarding a fatal accident in bangkok recently, involving one dead biker from subang jaya..
and in the matter of insurance claiming, it was rejected since he doesn't have international license.

* so guys, please take note on this matter.

because all this while we are comfortable with the insurance that we purchase at the border,
without knowing the real claiming procedure which requires international license.

p/s: u can apply for it at any jpj counter, requires 2 license photos, RM 150 (valid for 1 year) and a valid license.. (duhh!)

There are express buses direct from KL to Bukit Kayu Hitam immigration area:
https://www.roadhop.com/search?country=Mala...ukit+Kayu+Hitam

Thereafter just walk-in to Danok. only 850m away from M'sian side of immigration

Is this place same with what people call as Sadao?

My friend asked me to join them for Sadao, they say it's near to Thai border also smile.gif
*
No. Sadao is a different town about 7km North of Danok. Long time ago Sadao was much bigger town compare wth Pekan Danok..fast forward ..Now Danok almost equal the size of Sadao with more highrises

Danok is just right after the border complex. just 1km away from Bkt Kayu Hitam

The funny thing is, the Thai checkpoint is called Sadao Immigration Complex. I guess alot of ppl get confused from there.
*
Because Danok is part of Sadao District mah haha. Danok even not mentioned as one of the town in Sadao district although the size now almost the same size as Sadao. Sadao actually part of Chanlun districk of Kedah and part of Kedah Govt before British & Thai split the Changlun district into two countries in 1909

Sadao = Danok is the same la. All under Thailand.
*
The best part of Danok- Not even listed as one of the town in Sadao district biggrin.gif

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadao_District

Probably due to the fact that Danok was just a border stop over less than 20 yrs ago just like Bkt Kayu Hitam...Now so thrilling biggrin.gif

QUOTE(ck23 @ Jun 18 2013, 11:45 AM)
not Thai Custom.

It's prepared for Malaysia's roadblock right after DUTY FREE exit gate. Try to speak Malay with the officer, tell them everything complete, where are u from, heading to Thai for what purpose. They wont really look at your geran and passport. haha. So, even the car isn't yours, can drive in. Another friend of mine gave RM5 due to no photocopy geran, also get in. **Applicable for local guy la. We are kedah ppl.

Thai custom never see on your car geran. Don't do stupid things such as showing it to them or something. Just roll down your window and drive in slowly. (No need roll down window also can, i never did cuz my car window is not black color tinted. Just I noted a lot of Thai car did that, and waving their hands will do. haha)
*
You need to declare at the Custom counter there-lah Their so called "Temporary Import Permit" When I tried years ago driving without declaring, I kena stopped by one of the officer near to the Danok gate and they ask me to reverse my car and declare at the custom counter

Any particular format for the authorization letter? Where we can get the letter? I've been driving to southern Thai few times, but some of my friends own used car with previous owner name and not sure about the procedure.
*
Huh? Why din change name after buying? I pity the ex-owner having to pay summons for the new owner if any haha.
Just a simple 1 line letter will do..no specific format....just mention.. I bla_Bla_ Ic no...owner of vehichle no.......hereby authorised so & so to drive my car...

Sign off thereafter biggrin.gif

Guys, just curious, the duty free shops there sell tobacco products like cigars and also alcohol?
Is Danok or Langkawi duty free goods cheaper?
*
That duty free shop monopolised by only 1 co. i.e The Zone. You can find them in al entry & exit points in M'sia inc Langkawi biggrin.gif ..Price should be the same wth Langkawi branch. or very close..Cheaper than AIprot duty free shops & airport the zone outlet for sure

is there a bus service to hatyai and back?
*
There are many taxi services between BKH & Hatyai for sure. Bus Service should be avilable at Danok just after the Thai border side. The buses there are converted pic-up truck wth wooden/steel seats & canopy. They called this "Songthiew" or bigger version of Tuk-Tuk.

I last took taxi from Chanloon to Hatyai ~ 15yrs ago.. so not sure the price right now. Easier just drive in if you have your own car smile.gif ..Procedure to drive in on pg1
