To drive into Singapore is less hassle if compared to driving into Thailand in sense of documentation wise. You only have to have a valid driving license, valid passport and valid road tax sticker no need to bring your vehicle registration card. However, when it comes to the transportation matters, it could be a little more complicated at first.

If this is the first time you are driving into Singapore, please take note of the following.

You would need to fill in the embarkation card to get into Singapore. You would need to produce this with your passport to the Singapore immigration officer. After you have passed the Immigration counter, you would need to stop by at the Land Transport Authority office which is located on your right just before you reach the Customs area. Here, you would need to get your vehicle registered and purchase the Autopass Card (SG$10). Please note that this Autopass Card is only valid for one vehicle and non-transferable as it is encoded with your vehicle's registration number and insurance/road tax expiry date. If on your next entry, you have renewed your road tax, you would need to re-activate the Autopass Card at the same office. If you have bought a new vehicle, you cannot use the Autopass Card of your old vehicle for your new vehicle. You will need to purchase another Autopass Card for your new vehicle. You will need to insert your Autopass Card for the vehicle which you are driving into the card reader installed at the immigration booths to register the vehicle's entry and exit records. Please note that you will be fined SG$300 if you are caught entering into Singapore without this card. Please make sure to top up your Autopass Card in Singapore with sufficient cash value to pay your VEP fees, toll charges (where applicable) and ERP fees (if applicable) at Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoint.

Besides acting as an Entry permit, this card is used:
a. To pay for the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) fees;
b. Toll charges;
c. Fixed Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) fees;
d. Most of parking fees in Singapore (not including residential parking fees).

Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)
Please be advised that each car/motorbike is entitled to 10 days free Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) within one calendar year. Once you have fully utilized the 10 days free VEP within the year, you will be charged SG$20/day. Please note that this VEP fees is chargeable from Mondays to Fridays (2am - 5pm). Should you enter Singapore on Mondays to Fridays (5pm - 2am), Saturdays, Sundays and Singapore Public Holidays, there will be no VEP charged. Please also note that during the Singapore mid-year and year-end school holidays, VEP fees will apply from 2am to 12 noon.

Toll, as for toll, it is chargeable:
a. Upon entering or exiting via Tuas Checkpoint at SG$3.20 ; or
b. Upon departure at Woodlands Checkpoint at SG$1.20.

Electronic Road Pricing (ERP)
If you do not have an In-Vehicle Unit (IU) installed to your vehicle, a fixed Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) of SG$5 per day is chargeable when you enter certain areas, ie city centre and surrounding areas during office hours. You will know that you are entering these areas as there will be gantry or electronic sign showing whether the ERP is in operation or not. This fee will be deducted from your Autopass Card when you exit Singapore.

Parking
Most of the parking areas in shopping malls and attractions, the parking charges can be deducted from the Autopass Card. However for parking your vehicle in residential parking areas, you would need to purchase parking tickets. Denomination Coupons / Booklet Price/ Booklet Where & when to use the parking coupon $0.50 20 $10.00 For hourly parking in any URA/HDB car park during its coupon parking hours when the parking fee is either 50 cents or 1 dollar per half-hour.

$1.00 10 $10.00
$2.00 (Day) 5 $10.00
$3.00 5 $15.00
$4.00 5 $20.00
$4.00 (Night) 5 $20.00 For overnight parking in a URA/HDB car park where overnight parking is allowed from 10.30 pm to 7.00 am on the next day.

Topup / Reload Your Autopass Card

You can top up your Autopass Card at the following locations in Singapore:
a. Any 7-Eleven convenience outlets (open 24 hours)
b. Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) of UOB, OCBC, POSBank/DBS (if you have a bank account with these banks in Singapore)
c. Autopass top-up booths at:
- Woodlands Centre Road (open 24 hours)
- Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim (open 24 hours)
- Turf Club Avenue (8 am to 8 pm daily)

There will be an administrative fee of S$10 imposed if you pay your VEP fees and/or toll charges in cash at any Singapore Checkpoint, if your Autopass card does not have sufficient credits.

You can be fined or taken to court if you:
- Drive into Singapore without an Autopass Card for your vehicle
- Use an Autopass Card belonging to another foreign-registered vehicle
- There are no records of your vehicle’s entry/exit information on your Autopass Card upon exit and entry respectively
- You use a CashCard to register your entry and exit records or for VEP/Toll Payment instead of an Autopass card.

Note:
- Additional charges may be levied by top-up agents/provider.
- Singapore citizens, Permanent Residents (regardless of their place of residence), student pass holder, long term social visit pass holder and residents of Singapore cannot drive a Malaysia-registered car in/into Singapore. However, Singaporeans working and residing in Malaysia who need to make home visits to Singapore occasionally are allowed to drive their Malaysia-registered cars into Singapore on a case-by-case basis, subjected to prior approval from LTA (VEP fees will still apply).
- Free entry into Singapore from 5pm – 2am during weekdays and for whole day during weekends and public holidays (noneed for payment of VEP fees).

Just now I was looking for the Autopass renewal center when entering Singapore but since it was early in the morning, I missed the center and drived pass into Singapore.

Now I hold an expired Autopass card and not registered at entry, anyone had this experience on what to do next?

Okay, let me share my experience for the benefit of other forumers.

On my way out of the island, I passed the Singapore Immigration, inform the officer that I had a card error and was told to goto the LTA office after having my passport stamp 'Departed'. The office is just about 50meters from the Singapore Immigration so don't miss this!

There is 1 small counter where you just have to inform the LTA officer on duty about what happened, show her your Roadtax bill, and passport IN and OUT date, there is a SERVICE CHARGE of SGD$10. Well, a small amount to pay compare to court case if they decided to take action against me for not paying entry toll smile.gif

Of cos, Singaporeans officers are always polite and helpful!

Hi, I will be driving into Singapore for the first time and I will be arriving late at night (probably after 8pm). Can anyone tell me if the LTA office at the immigration area is open 24 hours (if not, what is the business hours)?

Thank you.

I drove to Singapore last Friday after 2pm and was told that it'll be free till tho weekend sunday when I returned but when I clock off yesterday sunday, it was moaning my card not having enough credit. I only drove my car through woodlands to hotel at China town and parked at hotel bar park. I am surprised why the credit of sing 4 dollars not adequate or even be deducted. Then I was told at the custom to go to top up office but couldn't see one along the way to the Johor custom. What should I do now? And what's actually happening?
