Just to ask, most of the GD here now have Degree or Diploma?

Cos its hard to find & recruit those designers with diploma nowadays.... Been looking around for the past few months

P/s: Do PM me your CV & portfolio to those who're interested. Diploma Level / RM2000-2300 per month.  And no, it's not an everyday hell, like need to stayback late.

lol still can apply...i'm advanced diploma biggrin.gif

my first salary is 1,6K, hmm.gif after that i quit because of my visa problem and they called me back and said will process my visa. so i'm working again this month and get 1,8k. shakehead.gif they treat me like bangla. 6.30pm (which i'm suppose to be back home) client call ask for some changes. they want me to submit 5 design at next day. then next morning 9.30 am boss asking me whether i got progress or not. rclxub.gif they though i no life after back home ka? shocking.gif i'm the only designer at company and they give me all overdue job and expect me finish in few days doh.gif

Just sharing tid-bit here...

First job from June 2012 till now, RM1200 (not yet minus late, EPF, insurance... damn... sounds really scary to you, right? Yes it is scary), in a small construction company. Dealing with 2D/3D structure/interior designs/documentation, tools up to myself - using Sketchup + Layout since I never learnt CAD. Layout can achieve the same thing anyway.

At least my life don't require huge spending in this little city, no pay house, no pay car, no pay whatever loan, so it is still manageable with that salary amount.

But seriously, of course I need MORE! Thinking of going freelance (not quiting the current job lah, since it is not really "busy" type of job).
Was once helped friend's company deal with a render project, $1k for 10-15 renders include modelling, not bad for a few days work really. If only there are more work source... But for now, I think I better spent my time horning my skills first, since most of my time in this construction company actually deal with CAD drawing instead of doing rendering. Duh, I didn't signed up to do those stuff... sweat.gif But well, get some knowledge anyway.

make it clear : I didn't make any quotation. he pay as much as he wish. I think it's fair for the amount of time involved which is short.

what is the rate you have in mind? (that customer can accept)

For those who are getting the short end of the stick, you have to learn to say no.

For clarification here is a salary chart. This for the 2d animation industry.

Fresh Grad (must have a good grasp of your skill set): Rm1500-Rm1800

1 year experience: Rm2000

2 years experience: Rm2500

3 years experience: Rm3000

4 years experience Senior level: Rm3500

5 years experience Leader level: Rm4000

6 years experience Assistant Director level: Rm4500

7 years experience Director: RM5000-Rm7000

This is the market price. Before someone says this is BS, this is the amount i pay to my staff. Inclusive of yearly bonuses and additional expenditure. Note that your pay will not go beyond a certain threshold if you do not wish to take on a more responsible role.

http://www.lilcritterworkshop.tv/

However, we base your salary on your merits rather then your service years sometimes on special cases.

Many say that the industry is cheap when it comes to proper salary or freelancing employment. Let me make a statement regarding this, the problem is not solely on the employers, but rather also on the individuals who destroys the market for everyone else.

When an employer feels that they can get away with paying peanuts, they will apply this to everyone, especially employers who have no knowledge in the specific industry. This escalates as more ill informed and desperate individuals source themselves out for cheap.

On the bright side of things, if that company provides international project exposure, its good to tolerate just for the experience. Building your skill set early and then following up with a career path. Set a milestone goal for yourself so at the end of the day, you have a focus on what you want.

Just to share my experience. If the Designer has 4 years experience but can do work like a 7 years experience designer. Surely another company will pay this 4 years experience Designer with RM4500 to come over to his company.

No OT but 1.2k in KL outskirt is abit too over....(work location kepong baru)

Plust I am working as art tutor (not part time as it only can work in weekend)
since 2010....

Just wondering is it Art (not design) industry in Malaysia is it really bad now?

Um. Sharing my experience.

I graduated with a Degree in Marketing Comm, but started as a fresh grad designer at a 4A ad agency.

Negotiated to a RM2700 pay.

But I resigned after 2 years, and is now working with a start up and fulltime freelancing. smile.gif

So I guess that, if you think you are worth the salary, fight for it. Market rate is there, but there are times that you can negotiate.

My best bet is that getting oversea for exposure is much more better. I know there is one comic art that is doing quite well here which is Lawak Campus.

I know the artist for many year and Apoh as well....
Sometime we do hang out and share the publishing experience as well....
Especially Apoh, nice and wisdom person on the related field as well.
Not that much chance to meet keith as he busy always.
If you do come on Comic Fiesta and so on event, I am regular visitor and low profile NOOB artist as well tongue.gif

Trying to gv a try after I settle down my FYP
Yet I am kinda worry about some thing which is I wish go for comic artist, but now my younger sister will be going oversea next yr as her course need complete with 2+2 thingy
My family quite a big burden as they affording 2 of us

Mayb as you suggest need to go oversea for exposure first as you know. Our currency is a sad thing to see....

Hope in this few year the price range of creative industry will be reasonable bit but cant chase the daily price hike up thingy and GST launching soon.... Well you know whistling.gif

I was thinking of becoming a freelancer as well but my networking might not as good as others. Plus I have financial commitment every month because I'm not from local as my family not here. Every single thing that I've spent does matter. So until now I still not dare to take freelance job. Still permanent job is more suitable for people like me.
