QUOTE(drpsyko @ Dec 8 2016, 12:02 AM) I think most of the people here are self taught, including me. How long it takes to reach realistic lvl? From kids drawing to movie production lvl.And by the way, my next piece won't be shown here cuz well, you know....can't pass censorship even though I already cover most of them. |

QUOTE(khiunngiap @ Dec 8 2016, 11:44 AM) depends on your dedication and talent .... the road of self thought is long man .... maybe you can try to go some classes I tried water color class once, 2hr doesn't teach much except maybe answer some curious question and show you some basic technique ... 1 week 3 times 1 month few hundred bucks ... tutorial is like color melon, trees and some single object ... didn't even teach much about drawing ... after 3 months give up (well sort of because I moved to other place too far to continue).Learn online tutorial end up can only draw certain things that is heavily base on remembering the lesson and stroke, if I try to change anything it will look different. The best method at this point is speed art. Those that doesn't tell you anything, just speeding up on how they draw and you just observe how they start till the end, any part you try to experiment you can pause the video and go back again and again ...... learn how to color skin tone, draw dragon, color scale, etc in about 6hrs time ..... during observation and drawing time I notice that somehow the feeling is different, like you don't remember what steps need to be done, you are just obsess to re-create the result and just able to like draw for that period of time. Like riding a bicycle, you have steps on how to ride a bicycle, but when you ride on top of it you just move, you don't think of the step by step. Problem is once you try to draw base on own imagination you go back to step 1. Kids drawing .... Btw, is artist in malaysia earning? Or drowning? |

QUOTE(GibeDeMuny @ Dec 11 2016, 11:50 AM) if you want advice; Thanks for the advice, is that book available in malaysia?stop symbol drawing stop trying to make things 'look good' that's number one mistake for anyone learning to draw start with 'Keys to Drawing' by Bert Dodson, early chapters are crucial and is a prerequisite for any artist you need that flow, the 'feel' when you're drawing, freedom of motion don't focus on trying to make everything look as good as possible don't draw from imagination focus on live drawing, nature, your surroundings don't rely on your imagination draw just as you see it it doesn't need to be accurate good luck |

QUOTE(drpsyko @ Aug 3 2019, 08:02 PM) Currently in small company like the one I'm working right now needs someone that is able to do more than just drawings. Apart from 2D illustration, might need to do UI/UX or texturing. The more skills you have, the better your chance to survive in the industry. Having more then just drawing skill is certainly a plus, but is the industry greedy? I've been freelancing in logo, banner, menu, web, packaging ....... when you work alone you need to know enough to prepare for the end result, and majority is stingy as hell when it comes to price per job.I'm fine with related skill to work on anything I can learn / use. Like if boss ask to do a 3d job while I am hired as a 2D artist I have no problem with it as long as he isn't expecting me doing both 2D and 3D at the same time for a job that require multiple people to do. Some company hire 1 person with as much skill as they have not because they are multi purpose able, but because they expect that 1 person will be doing a 2 men job minimum while paying only a single person salary. And base on my freelance experience a lot is abusing employee in such a sense. They don't hire good amount of staff, they just hire 1 guy doing multiple jobs. |
