being in uni for more than 4 years is taking a toll on my enthusiasm.. since im already at final year and its probably impossible for me to be in the second upper ... so meh as long as i maintain a 3.0+ GPA .. i dont really study at all doh.gif

depend on person smile.gif

all i need is a simple good stoke brush and 4 type of different layers. and im good to go,
but i have to admit that PS bring toon of tool that are useful and major brush that useful.. sometimes ...
well if you know how to use them..
which i don't.  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

so sai is pretty much bare... without all the stuff on PSD

and need a lot of time to master since. you pretty much doing everything on your own,
but it does support a PSD file conversion... so its the best tool where you can go back and forth form sai and PSD
to get thr best of both world  smile.gif  smile.gif  smile.gif

well actually i use about 2 types of brushes in photoshop as well XD ... since CS5(or was it CS4) you can rotate your canvas already.. hence i can sketch directly in photoshop. i only use the other features and more brushes for detailing once i completed the painting phase brows.gif

@loto try to avoid smudging its actually a bad practice in my opinion (makes the artwork dirty)

something i drew quite a long time ago (pardon the hair and clothes as my aim is only the face).. using only 2B pencil... hmm you cant really see the shading here in this pic.. but i drew fine hashing .. fine lines -> thick lines = light ->dark

agito just gave some really solid advice do take note on 1) and 2), especially number 2). and you dont really need 7b well i only use 2b for the girl i draw. but usually i have a 6H 2B and 4B also a mechanical pencil for outlines. try practicing shading more

I want to learn to draw and I downloaded some video tutorial as well however I don't know where to begin...

Any advice? Totally no experience in drawing except class Pendidikan Seni back in school days... Develop interest quite late sad.gif
*
boring start = draw straight lines without using ruler/guides.. vertical and horizontal. this is like basic sword mastery in drawing
not so boring start = try doodling anything that comes to mind.. but try to reduce stroke count.. to avoid having the bulu-bulu effect
try tracing (not putting a piece of paper over a picture and trace kinda of tracing) when youre already confident with your strokes.

i've been drawing ever since the day i could remember so i cant really give much or any solid advice especially on how to begin from scratch... but i do believe that practice makes perfect, even when it comes to drawing.. so just draw draw draw and dont be surprise if there's a bump growing on your middle finger sweat.gif
