Latest haul for me. Yes, I can have a huge battle during this Raya at Helm's Deep.  thumbup.gif Originally not on my wish list but the price was too hard to resist and the sets looks awesome.

So now to look for Gandalf and Frodo to complete the fellowship. sweat.gif

Quite a few Lego Store exclusives (i picked up a few) which I thought were worth it since there's no real easy way to get them here. They had a lot of Battle Packs (City Fire, PotC, Kingdoms Dragon Knights vs Lion Knights), a ton of keychains but nothing much for AFOLs. No polybags too except Ninjago Kendo + Jay and the Halloween brick set.

Oh, but they had a really nice selection of Architecture sets.
*
not worth to go all d way there for sets purchase
considering it cost like rm140/entry + travel costs , end up maybe RM300+ to go there.

QUOTE(Joshlkw @ Aug 22 2012, 09:48 AM)
I stopped reading after getting to the part that mentions 'ALJ prices'. And RM30-35 per 100g in the Brick shop? Seriously if that were true, I wouldn't even bother going at all. Ever. BL can already cater to all my Lego needs without having to move an inch or pay an expensive entrance fee. Besides, bulk shipping makes it worthwhile most of the time anyways. What a major disappointment thus far.
*
RM30 is too high liao... but i shortage white bricks and those box sets dun give much white
probably have to hunt in BL for a shop that sells most of the parts i want

QUOTE(alanyuppie @ Aug 22 2012, 09:52 AM)
Thats why some prefer to go small and do micromodels/MOC rather than minifig scaled ones.  "evolution" are pushing fellow AFOLs to downsize tbheir creation.
*
Ya, i try to build a villa and the structure take too many bricks if doing minifig scale..
but if moc a smaller villa, then cannot "play" liao....

Yeah, totally not worth it, unless you're actually going to the theme park. If you're heading that direction, might as well drive down to Singapore since it's only about half an hour away to pick up some cheap lego.

Agreed with Josh and Alan, might as well get it off BL. But oh damn, if they have a whole pot of trans pieces, clear bricks or *fingers crossed* the new round tiles... it's going to be hard to resist.

I'm still optimistic that we'll see some surprises in the Build a Minifig section - if there are Series 1 and 2 parts available, it would be great. And at RM8~ a minifig, might be an easy-ish way to army build. I expect that to be quite popular, since the pricing is just about right. Hope the accessories available will justify the prices.
*
if only the pick a brick can help me towards this type of build:

they pretty much have a complete monopoly and can dictate the prices they set without much fear of competition from anyone else.
*
if consumer dun buy, there will be price pressure from retail side that will force distributor to adjust price. however that seldom happens/not so easy/not so fast.

i spent the whole nite picking bricks at BL to expand my apple tree house to a villa.
structure alone (bricks plates tiles) also hit rm220 liao excl. shipping sad.gif

BL parts very expensive... seem like i am better off buy 2 more same set, and combine them.

*
i am playing with it now

Lego Digital Designer -> LDD to POVRAY converter -> POVRAY to render

the nicest setting takes forever to render on my i5 processor (few hours for a 1920x1080)
so now i lower the quality and render 1280x720.

The quality and the density of the plastic bricks also play important factor to make a strong lock between bricks adn joints.

i bought some Enlighten sets. They look good when assemble, but the part qualiti is quite bad but not as bad as some other brands.
and when mix wif lego piece its too glaring contrast.

however i salvage the hinges/connectors those item that when u build liao u cannot see one.
now i got 3 big boxes of enlighten did not unbox. dun plan to also... i feel not worth to buy despite cheap price cos no enjoyment.

Added on August 23, 2012, 4:13 pmlast nite i hide all my lego into boxes and cupboard. cos the house got party and i sked the kids come and play my minifigs and destroy my sets.

BL is only good if you mass order a lot of the same parts, if you're trying to source for all the different bricks to build a set, then buying the set itself is definitely cheaper (unless it's discontinued sets like cafe corner, then you're better off sourcing for the parts than buying the set cos the price is ridiculous). Or look for another set which has most of the parts you need. From my experience, buying sets has better value becos you can always sell the parts you don't need. If the set comes with minifigs then sometimes selling the minifigs itself can already cover half your cost. For example 6868 Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout is bout 250+ but the hulk itself is selling for 90+. Of course, that's if you're not into minifigs. wink.gif
*
yes, BL part by part to make a set is very expensive. i ordered 70% of parts needed for a small cafe moc 6x10 also cost like rm50+.

so probably gonna buy another full set, and try to see what i can make out of that instead.

Daiso is selling RM5 transparent plastic shoe boxes.
Fairly sturdy and with a lid.
Also transparent pill boxes with multi compartments are available at Daiso to sort really small things like minifigs accessories and 1x transparent pieces.

Preview here > http://www.street-love.net/2011/03/daiso-haul.html

With all the rage on figs these days... we should really start a collaborative effort to make vignettes (8x8) ,(12x12) or (16x16)  with local flavors.... then  find ways to exhibit them by connecting them to each other.  Maybe this can be our baby steps towards bigger things/events in the future.

We can make meaningful or sarcastic scenes  on current happenings in this country, from "broken public toilets"    until "bunch of yellow shirted figs with protest signs crammed into a 16x16 plate"  biggrin.gif

For me I would hit on even more kampung flavored vignette like "atuk handling monkey climbing up palm tree" or simply  "boy jumping into riverfrom tree branches"
*
i think someone did the bersih one

and ya i am exploring how to do local related scenes and building, now getting inspire
