Moody's: US housing outlook: from drag to driver

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 25): Housing, once the Achilles’ heel of the U.S. economy, is starting to look like a source of strength in a recovery that has lost its vigor and faces significant roadblocks, according to Moody's Investors Services.
In a report Aug 21, Moody's said that housing was now a bright spot speaks more about the weakness of the recovery than absolute strength in housing.
"The housing market’s recovery is gaining legs, a welcome relief at a time when other growth drivers of the US economy are faltering," said Moody’s Analytics.
"Barring a slip into another recession, recovery in housing should be in full swing by 2013, although the pipeline of distressed properties may cause a brief dip in housing prices before then," it said.
