I called to KFH in KL yesterday:

Me: Hi, do you open tomorrow (Friday - 1 February)?

KFH: Yes, we open tomorrow

Me: Ok, so I can place my FD tomorrow?

KFH: Oh, please hold on (she needed to confirm this to somebody else)

KFH: Sorry, we cannot place FD for you tomorrow, we open tomorrow for other transactions only...

Me: So, I can only place my FD next Monday?

KFH: Yes, come next Monday.

Me: Is the FD promo rate still negotiable?

KFH: How much money do you want to place in FD?

Me: xx thousand.

KFH: hmm..., hmm.gif no, it is not negotiable (maybe my money is not sufficient enough?), but we pay you advance interest.

Me: You pay advance interest one week later, right?

KFH: Yes, one week later. May I have your contact number?

Me: Why?

KFH: I will get somebody to call you. What is your name?

Me: But I have not decided yet, I might place my FD in another bank. My name is xx. But I will call you if I come, what is your name?

KFH: OK, my name is xxx

---The end----

I think KFH pays incentive to the employee who opens FD for their customer?

SS account 0.5% if you withdraw from the account. If you top up RM 50, interest rate is 2.75%

You are right. I already asked the OCBC customer service in the bank last time.

As long as deposit (top-up) RM 1K during any day of the month, the principle money will get 2.9% for whole month in Smart Saver account.

For example: if deposit RM 1K in 15th of the month, the principle amount will get 2.9% for the whole month; whereas
the RM 1K top-up will get 2.9% but calculates from 15th until the end of the month.

Another example: if I have RM 10K in my Smart Saver, if I deposit (top-up) RM 1K during 15th of the month, my RM 10K
will get 2.9% p.a. for the whole month; but the RM1K top-up will get 2.9% also but will calculate this 2.9% interest from 15th
until the end of the month.

Just closed my OCBC SmartSavers (part of the Booster Deal previously) and get a Cashier Order for FREE... Next week going to re-open for OCBC Bonus Savers promo...
*
Are you going to deposit the check from OCBC to another bank (let's say bank V)?
Then get the check from bank V and deposit it back to OCBC for Bonus Saver?

Or you use the IBG technique? biggrin.gif

OCBC Cheque --> MBB --> MBB Cheque --> OCBC Bonus Savers
Not too sure I can re-open in such a short period.

If like this, how many days of interest you are going too lose? Including this weekend without interest leh...

If I were you, I would probably take the OCBC check straight to KFH for 6 months at 3.88%, and KFH pays advance interest..

Thanks for clarifying w OCBC, you work there?

Smart Saver account, is it a CASA account? or it's a different deal? I heard there FD where we don't need to open account, just give the bank cheque and they will put it under their FD account....

Whereby CASA acc need to bank in at least 1K after a month or 2 to maintain the high interest rate.

Man~ I'm so confused on what to take now... huhu~
*
No lah.. biggrin.gif I do not work for bank.

Smart Saver is in between a saving account and mini FD, Smart Saver is not a current account.
Have a look at this table, it helps you to understand how does it work: Attached Image

Let's say if you have RM 10K in your Smart Saver since December 2012, if you deposit RM 1K (in order to maximize interest rate up to 2.9%)
in your Smart Saver account in 6th of January 2013, your RM 10K in Smart Saver will get 2.9% interest p.a. for the whole month of January
(2.9% p.a. on RM 10K for 31 days); whereas your RM 1K deposit will get 2.9% interest p.a. calculate from 6th until 31th of January.
Smart Saver pays interest on daily basis.

Once you make a withdrawal, the interest in your Smart Saver will drop to 0.5% for the particular month.

You are right. And thanks for clarifying this.

Smart Saver pays 0.5% p.a. only when we make any withdrawal during the calendar month.

If no withdrawal nor deposit during the calendar month, Smart Saver pays 2.4% p.a.
If no withdrawal and deposit from RM 50 to RM 999, Smart Saver pays 2.75% p.a.
If no withdrawal and deposit at least RM 1000, Smart Saver pay 2.9% p.a.

I also confused until today..pai seh... blush.gif

UOB: 3.5% for 3 months
Bank Rakyat: 3.65% for 3 months
OCBC: Effective rate 3.96% for 3 months

Anybody knows any other banks offer the competitive FD rates
for 3 months except the above 3 banks?

yes - the account will only be left with minimum amount (RM50?) to maintain it for future promo at OCBC.
*
If I am not mistaken, minimum is RM 20 to maintain the Smart Saver account

Happy CNY!

OCBC Ampang branch only needs minimum of RM 20 to maintain a Smart Saver account; but
OCBC Cheras branch needs minimum of RM 50 to maintain a Smart Saver account.

It seems OCBC does not have a standard minimum for Smart Saver account? rclxub.gif

i think cheras branch has made a mistake. only RM 20 need to be maintained.
Or u can do a simple test. jus try to transfer the amount in Smart saver to your current/saving account while maintaining RM20. u will know when the system prompt transaction is not successful..
*
I think the teller in Cheras branch made a mistake too...

Cheras branch system showed the minimum amount RM 20 in Ampang branch had no problem.

if u know how to play ard with the FD and smart saver from OCBC, then you can get at least 4% of interest in your FD every month !
I would say thats the highest in a month among all banks.
*
Withdraw Smart Saver from a branch and re-deposit to another branch's Smart Saver to
continue the 2.9%? biggrin.gif

Most important is to maintain the FD rate, not on the smart saver.
Anyhow I like smart saver as it auto transfers certain fund from ur current acc n stop you from using excess money
*
I am interested to know how do you maintain the FD rate?
Thank you

But why did he close his blog ? No harm to let it run.

Also last time when he went away he did let us know.

So this time is a mystery.
*
One of the possibilities I can think of is maybe some organizations (like banks)
warns him for pointing out the pros and cons of certain financial products.
This is my guessing only..I could be wrong

But one thing for sure he is still healthy.

I could fell that he was quitting slowly since last year December.
