A newbie here.

Read you guys discussion. One thing I don't understand, is that a good frame so important? Groupset, I understand... But frame quality is important as well?
*
why groupset important?.. hmm.gif

dear sifus,

for beginner like me, a Merida Road Lite 903 (Road Bike) ok?..
More information on the year 2012 model: http://www.merida-bikes.com/en_int/bike/20...ace+Lite+903-30

I saw this offer in muday.my My guess is that it is a year 2009 as I ccouldn;t not find much information from the 2010-2012 archive of Merida site. The price is reli attractive at RM1500.

that is the older merida from last year i think ... at least...

this year is utilizing the 10speed tiagra as opposed to 9 on the 903 you saw...and the price is around RM3.1k...

it's cheap and rideable is all i can say... don't expect too much out of it... it won't be a bad bike for a beginner...

only 2 things you won't know... condition of the bike, never trust owner and check it out for yourself if you are really interested... and if the sizing is right for you?

i am not saying a 2nd hand bike is no good... but you definitely have to factor in if there are any problems that might pop up and catch you by surprise since you won't know how well the owner took care of it... and you will have no support from the bike shop he bought it from since they don't know you..

ask the owner to see how old is the bike before you decide further...

on a another note, a current 901 which has only a sora 9s is about RM2.5k and i think the shop might include you some accessories like meters, lights and maybe helmet... i heard them selling to a customer the other day...

food for thought...
*
hmm.gif it is true that the condition as far for now is thru the 2-3picture posted threre in mudah.my

but im more concern about the sizing..myself is recommended a 52cm or 54cm (i'm 5 feet 8)...and as far i know, many bike are in the smaller range, unless those pricey ones which sometimes they happen to bring in just the correct sizing..

901 at 2.5k??..tats a beginner dream come true, since i dun have much expectation fr my bike yet!!! but too bad i'm fr east malaysia. cry.gif cry.gif oh well, happy hunting

i think for 5'8". size 52 should be your limit. personally, i'd go with size 50.
*
oic.. nod.gif nod.gif i tink i would stick with 52cm or 50cm then... smile.gif if going with 50cm, then its much easier cos a lot of shop does carry size 50cm in my area...

was trying to go for 52cm or 54cm as per this website la.. http://www.ebicycles.com/bicycle-tools/fra...7.2&b=Calculate

but i dunno how accurate is this website and also that different bike has different geometry.. rclxub.gif

depends on what u want. the cheap ones like ironmag can provide good protection too. actually, cheap or expensive, branded or not, they provide the same safety features (because designed to the same standard). the differences are; cool factor, ventilation, lightweight, etc. for example, a rm800 helmet can have 24 vents for good ventilation, weighs only 220g. a rm100 helmet will protect ur head the same as the expensive helmet, just that it can only achieve that with much less vents, maybe 8 vents, and weighs 400g. just an example.

reasonable price to me might be unreasonable to you, vice versa. so quite hard to answer ur question.

oic... thumbup.gif
tats great advice there..thanks a lot for the price suggestion. at least now know wat to look at.

would b getting in the range of RM100 i guess. and wil check out the ventilation and weight smile.gif actually i tink my question would be like what to look out for when picking a helmet. smile.gif
