So I was looking through the papers the other day, and saw DiGi having an iPhone "sale". My contract's expiring soon, so I was quite interested. When I first got my iPhone 4 during the DiGi launch, their monthly terms were IMO the cheapest around. iDiGi88 for rm55 a month after rebates and everything. Even if the iPhone was barely subsidized, I didn't mind as I figured it was cheaper than Maxis' plan then considering the contract duration.

So this new plan is iPhone 4S offered at 799 for 24months on the iDiGi138 plan. A decent contract, I could use more minutes. But to my suprise, the monthly commitment for this plan (24 months duration interest free installments) was RM175!

Compare this, against the old iDiGi138 plan which had a monthly commitment of rm88 after rebates. That's RM87 difference after deducting from the new plan's RM175 commitment. RM87 x 24 months is...RM2088! So in effect, I'd be paying RM2088+RM699...RM2787 for a 16G iPhone 4S if I follow the original pricing?!

WHAT PROMOTION?! WHAT SALE?!

So to new customers, I only have this to say. DiGi's new plan is MORE EXPENSIVE than the original plan. Their "SALE" is to put it in blunt terms, a smoke and mirror scam. You'd be better off paying for the original plan, getting the rebates and buying an iPhone at no subsidy.

Except you can't. Now DiGi is refusing to let me continue extending my original contract with it's terms and rebates. And I'm not even wanting to buy their unsubsidized devices. They're basically forcing me to sign a more expensive contract, and to upgrade my plan!

I hope this serves as a warning to those who think DiGi is still the cheapest. They might have been, they no longer are which is very disappointing. Hoping things change soon before my contract expires, and nobody supports their daylight robbery of a "sale". Or might jump to Maxis straightaway, they have quite a decent offer. Better coverage, better 3G speeds, I don't mind paying a bit more. Rather than be pulled in and then have my intelligence insulted by this sub-par company.

DiGi. When they say SALE, They mean SCAM!

Not sure about the others, but I think it should be the same. The offer is basically to me kind of a bait and switch. Previously, DiGi rebates for contracts were a lot. iDiGi138 for rm88 after rebates. Now, it's the full rm138 in return for "subsidized" devices which turns out to be more expensive compared to the previous plans? And they had the cheek to call it a promotion.

Haha, just informing others not to fall for their trap.

I was quite eager when I knew they had sale. Mana tau, after calculate then it become clear. Imagine my rage, they tried to pull this one over me. It's fine they want me to upgrade sometimes, but now they forcing me to either upgrade my contract and pay more in the illusion that I'm paying for a good deal...or let my contract lapse. I know what my choice going to be.

Screw you DiGi. Maxis already laughing at your ineptness, their new plan got MNP charges inclusive hahahaha!

Yeah, I counted the Maxis plan too. If you take into account the minutes and SMS given, stuff like that, I think Maxis will STILL be cheaper than the DiGi plan which comes as a suprise. Honestly, I prefer Maxis actually as they have better 3G coverage in my area. Not like DiGi, everywhere EDGE except if you stand in the middle of the fricking city. And the DiGi customer service...=/

You think the plan is worth too after calculations?

I actually use Maxis for my main line, iValue2 I think. Very expensive so was thinking of switching to DiGi. But now this thing happen to DiGi, I'm thinking of switching my 2nd line to Maxis instead.

Input much appreciated.

I think quality comes with price. I was a Digi user 2 years back because at that time the price is really cheap for calls and SMS but switched to Maxis after getting poor signal and consistent call drop from Digi. Switched to Maxis, pay a bit more to get piece of mind. By the way, Digi is only cheaper if most of your friends are using Digi. Maxis is cheaper if your friends or clients are using Maxis. smile.gif

True also. DiGi to me is spotty at most in terms of service, if only they spent their revenue more on increasing quality and coverage instead of hiring those moronic yellow people or whatever.

I was looking for something along the lines of iDiGi88, something with a low commitment considering it's a 2nd line and allows me to buy a new phone hopefully with some subsidy. 2 birds with one stone sort of. Now busily recalculating my options.

Oh, just saw you mentioned second line.
Well, Digi could be a good choice. Umobile also okay but only good around Klang Valley and major cities only.

great to know this topic is helping. x.d, I think the current promotion for Maxis is cheaper than the original iValue plan. plus you get the added benefit of deciding your own usage out of the Value Plus pool. the thing I don't really like about iValue is the set amount of minutes and unable to message to other networks without charge. Value Plus is good that way, you get a set amount of credit to do what you want with it.

Bro, ktnl,

I think you got the understanding wrong. The older promo which you mention is when digi does not subsidize the phone and you have to pay upfront the RRP minus 200 I believe.

The RM699 campaign is based on a lower device price where you pay RM138 monthly fee and RM699 device price.

Previously the phone would cost you RM2090 now it's RM699
Previously you would pay RM93 for monthly fee now it's RM138
Previously it's airtime rebate now it's device subsidy
Total subsidies is the same once you calculate it. but now DiGi is throwing in another RM266 worth of subsidies. So that totals up to RM1316 instead of RM1080 of rebate/subsidies.

iPhone was always based on an airtime rebate but now telcos are subsidising the price of the phone itself. Dont be confused by the calculation because it's two different things all together.

RM175 is inclusive of the monthly fee plus device under EPP for 24 months.

I don't think it's a scam, it's just a misunderstanding/calculation...

Yup i just figured it out 2 months ago.. But still i opted for Digi coz of the unlimited data..

Their plan price are so smart that they put RM88 but only charge u RM53 so u think oh Digi is so cheap just 50% of what Maxis giving...
But instead u didnt know u actually are paying RM88 due to u are paying the phone price in FULL, only to rebate back into your monthly bill.

Oh btw im talking about the old plan...I actually didnt know about Digi also having RM799 package too

as above.

I do understand what you're saying. in essence, this plan is the SAME as the previous offer. with 2 EXCEPTIONS.

iDiGi88 customers like me, no longer have an option to extend their contract. basically, DiGi is saying you can't use your cheap plan anymore and you must upgrade to get a further contract. that is to put it in blunt terms, screwing with customers. Lure them in with cheap plans, then force them to upgrade while giving them the illusion that they're actually paying less this time round. classic bait and switch is what it is.

and 2, I don't appreciate DiGi pulling all the stops in promotion, billing this new "PROMOTION" as a sale, cheapest iPhone plan and such. on the surface, it's easy to get suckered. but once you look deeper, you realize they're selling a MORE expensive plan and calling it cheaper?

misleading is the gentle term for it. but I prefer to call it what it is. a bait and switch scam.

yeah, very true.

I opted for the iDiGi88 at first, since it was technically the cheapest plan around. nevermind that it's actually a layered promotion, classic marketing. but that's the old plan. now there is no cheap plans anymore, iDiGi88 is gone replaced with this more expensive plan.

I would upgrade, but why pay nearly the same as Maxis when I can get better coverage and 3G network with Maxis right? so annoying.

FYI TS, your original post IS misleading. You're unintentionally giving out incorrect information based on your own interpretation of the promotion given out by Digi. I suggest you rectify it. New customers won't be bothered so much by Digi's promotion as it would by your post if anything. You blatantly, through your inept reading skills, accused Digi of purporting a scam under the veil of promotion, which is in fact, not true at all.

FYI TS, your original post IS misleading. You're unintentionally giving out incorrect information based on your own interpretation of the promotion given out by Digi. I suggest you rectify it. New customers won't be bothered so much by Digi's promotion as it would by your post if anything. You blatantly, through your inept reading skills, accused Digi of purporting a scam under the veil of promotion, which is in fact, not true at all.

how is it not true? let me ask you that?

what they are doing is basically a switch and bait. what kind of promotion is that when there is NO DISCOUNT AT ALL compared to the old pricing? you can do the calculation for yourself, what difference is this new "SALE" compared to the old pricing?

and furthermore, they actually removed iDiGi88 from the equation. my grievance on that, do read through my posts.

I don't believe I am misleading anyone, the numbers don't lie. any customer can tell you how the way it's put, how DiGi is pulling smoke and mirrors all round. the only one lying is DiGi when they switch the prices about, and then claim to the customer that the new plan is on SALE pricing and a PROMOTION, hoping to misle customers into thinking they're getting a better deal when they're not.

again, bait and switch in my case. cheaper price now, purportedly cheaper price if I invest more. but no, nothing of that sort.

Maxis, with the new 4S plan. I think they deliberately come up with that to shoot back DiGi's weakness.

Umobile and so forth, I can't really tell. Never tried them here in Sarawak. Celcom, so and so but the 3G and dropped call rates are a bit of a turnoff.

I use both lines for now. reason I got DiGi line is Maxis can be very expensive, and the contract sometimes very inflexible. Like iValue credit only reserved for Maxis to Maxis SMS, things like that. some people also don't like the data cap. other than that, the customer service is better than DiGi IMO and coverage and 3G is excellent.

this time I'm thinking of switching my DiGi line back to Maxis, as it seems the Maxis plan is better and also because of DiGi's "marketing". The 4S promotion seems very decent, I think ValuePlus is more flexible than iValue.

usually I call 123 will only press like 2 keys and then get to a human within at most 2 minutes I think? I'm OneClub so don't know if it's different for normal now, last time I know got a lot of key to press. DiGi, a TON of keys to press. and what's worse, it's very hard to get the option you want. their customer service very confusing and not helpful at all.

the SMS update service I have no idea, never subscribe. just know they spam a lot of junk hahaha!

you using iPhone too right? my iPhone does that sometimes, says 3G but no data connection. have to go flight mode to reset connection. think it's an iPhone issue, not Maxis.

maybe they give priority to oneclub I think. especially nowadays they add a lot of people to oneclub, all those bill above rm150/month one. but honestly I never wait too long one.

which area you at? I've experience data downage only 2 times in past year, both lasting around 6 hours I think. network upgrade or something. you can turn off the spam? I really hate it when my phone vibrate behind my head when sleeping at night hahaha

so far, not having problem with celcom.. coverage celcom quite good.. always on 3G.. you can visit celcom website to view their package.. even if you take 500MB only, if you use more than that, they not charge you anything.. just speed slow a bit..

is that in KL? that's some heavy downtime. KL user base is so much larger than here, so think maybe they have issue keeping up? so have to keep upgrading network or something? not sure.

Which telco is the best really depends on locations,3G speed, coverage, and budget..customer service quality for me is a value added things..the variable factors i stated above may change one's opinion on which telco is the best.

Some say digi is the best coz of their 'innovative pricing'(lacks coverage n speed)..some also said maxis is the best coz of their coverage n high surfing speed (though a bit expensive)..others said umobile is the best coz of their very high speed of 3g(but like digi, they have poor coverage areas)..some say celcom is the best coz of their 'innovative pricing',and wide coverage(but the surfing speed is not as fast as yes 4g,umobile n maxis)..
Anyone can say whatever they want..but the main n most important decision comes down to the user(u can figure it out,in time)

I'm currently maxis 4s ivalue 2 subscriber..as im living and works in selangor n KL respectively,i chose maxis because of its coverage covers almost everywhere i usually go..coverage-wise,i'd say maxis and celcom are the best..but in terms of 3G speed from those two, maxis is better..this i know coz i actively jailbreaks people's iphones for free (this is not a promo),all of them are either friends, relatives and colleagues..so when i jaibreak n download stuffs for them,i usually use their own 3g network..i've jailbreak my boss's and some of my friends' iphone n ipad who uses celcom..i really notice the difference when downloading even small tweaks like sbsettings n winterboard which doesn't require big size..even for that small stuffs, the difference in speed from those two are pretty obvious..but this doesn't mean maxis is always the best overall..it maybe a different story if i'm at other places..i only say maxis is the best in my case(i.e my usual location, satisfaction).

All that being said, its still your decision because its your money, n only you can decide what is the best for you.

Fyi,i've been a maxis subscriber since my college days in muadzam shah pahang(10 years ago),from hotlink user, then change to normal post paid, then ivalue 1 for iphone 4, n until today, iphone 4s ivalue 2..n yes,i'm a Maxis One Club member where i technically dont spend a dime when i sold my iphone 4 16gb n took the 4s 32gb for only rm799(without advance payment),which is the a profit of rm1 coz i sold my ip4 for rm800..plus for commitment fees,i actually pay less now (rm155) than my previous ip4 (rm100) because previously i own a 3gb(recently free upgraded to 4gb with no additional cost) maxis broadband (rm68)..now i cancelled my 4gb broadband n took the 1gb broadband for only rm18(tax purposes)..so u do the math..do other telco give this kind of promo??hell no(and i said this from my own personal experience)..believe it or not,i use the same number since i first subscribe to hotlink.

EDIT : i would like to add some more..for me,money is not my main criteria as long as their service matched my expectations..luckily for me,i got a good steady job after college with average pay..i wouldn't mind spend a bit more to get the best (for me) service that i can rely on..i dont expect to have a tip top 3g network when i'm in rural or sub-urban area coz i dont live there..there will be opportunity costs here n there for any telco that u choose to serve u as a customer..the difference is how u adapt with their disadvantages..for now,i'm satisfied with what i pay n what i get for that money spent..if maxis ever f**k me really bad in the future,i'll have no doubt of choosing another telco for sure

For me, Maxis is very good and my opinion same like you, just that what I don't like is their customer service vmad.gif called 123 abt my issue and waited for 30min++ just to get through the Maxis CS vmad.gif even on Maxis Forum also no answer. And I also have Twitter&Facebook SMS Update problem which had constant downtime and delayed update almost everyday vmad.gif This really frustrates me.. called 123 but they say they will look into it... but still the same and finally I have to report SKMM and NCCC because of this issue which is never resolved.. till now.. I experience this since last year( for delayed update) and downtime( since February this year).. till now sad.gif

They also didn't keep their promise that FB&Twitter SMS Update service upgrading will be completed by end of July.. but now 1st of August already.... still the same vmad.gif

Now even they have data network downtime, although not everyday, maybe 3-5 times in a month, suddenly happen without notice vmad.gif I am not sure why its like that. They should inform customers 1st if there is any downtime for 3G

sad.gif not sure what to do.. but I stay with Maxis due to good coverage... haihhh what to do

i am using samsung galaxy Y which its a smartphone

Since you have already posted/raised your concerns about maxis fb/twiiter sms update to various medium, the things u can do is either;

a)wait for them to rectify the problem regardless of time,
b)frequently ask them for the status of your inquiry,
c)change to a better telco if still not solve.

But in my personal opinion,i don't think thats a big problem..u see,you are one of few people who actually USE the fb/twitter sms update instead of the normal notification from the app..the way i see it,the fb/twitter sms update is not very popular among users in malaysia..to think of that, how many do you think actually use that service??apart from that,it may be coz of their sms system problem (just as greenlp_87 said)..i dont know about other telco handle their fb/twitter update..i could be better,it also can be even worse..good luck in finding that info.

In the meantime, since u said the 3G n coverage is good, why dont u just use the notification directly from app??..it's actually even faster than sms update (IMO)..and why exactly u want to have this service in the first place??

p.s. u really like emoticons do you??i got an error for posting too many emoticons laugh.gif

u using data plan or not?if not subscribe data plan n enjoy surfing fb/twitter. the speed for surfing/browsing is depend on the coverage n the tower at ur area..if got a lot of people at ur area using maxis 1 time for sure the speed will be slower than usual..its call peak hour..n sometimes at nite between 8-12 the speed will be slower also. nod.gif

OH, for ur info,

I am using Maxis's Internet Value Plan 75 which have 3.5 GB of Internet, but I still rely on FB and Twitter SMS Update as I am not always online on phone and to save me from bill shock, I off my packet data to prevent shocking bill for me... thats why I rely on that smile.gif

I hope Maxis can solve this soon too smile.gif

I dont' think let the 3G on all the time will make you overuse that quota, provided that u MUST DISABLE any unneeded notifications, email push etc especially location..i dont know about android(i have one android tablet for my 2 year old son) just recently, but with iphone n ipad, the interface n standard tweaks are basic, simple to understand and it works most importantly..means that i know 'exactly' what are the phone's do's and don'ts..that is why i never use the sms update system..plus,previously i use the ivalue 1 1GB free data and never exceed that limit (as long as u dont view too many videos, picture especially high resolution ones)..u have 3.5 gb,i'd say its MORE THAN ENOUGH.. n to compliment with that, u can use the dial *136*9# to check your current internet usage balance (this service will tell you your current internet plan, your balance as to date, when the quota be renew, and also quota upgrade/top up if u feel 3.5GB is still not big enough in that month)

This is a very unprofessional thread.
Just to show how mathematic works,

Digi 138 Plan comparison

Below is what TS claim :

New Promo Pay RM175 x 24 = RM4210 <-------

If take old DiGi 138 plan : RM 4292
If take this NEW PROMO : RM 4210

I cannot think how is RM4210 >>>> RM4292

If you want promote Maxis, please use a more professional thread title.
If you dont know math, please ask you primary school teacher.
If you never look at your bill and dont know how it works, ask your mom who pay for you.

Wow,i never thought i'll say this but this is a big blow to DIGI BIGTIME..digi are going to be butt hurt because IT IS ON THEIR OWN OFFICIAL WEBSITE..read carefully and calculate it.

I actually open your link and open the 'Compare Plans' part in the table 'Total cost of Ownership'..will digi fans will surely blindly agree with the given rates of digi n its competitor, I for one am not ignorant..i'll break it down to you guys;

DO ANY ONE OF YOU NOTICE THE "Total Cost Over 24 Months (Phone + Subscription Fees)" for competitor is actually forget to minus the advance payment for the phone, which is rm600 for celcom and rm620 for maxis??digi is calculated correctly because they dont impose the advance payment n already net after rebate..for celcom n maxis, they only sums the phone price + commitment fees for the whole duration period..if u calculated the ACTUAL TOTAL AFTER MINUS THE ADVANCE PAYMENT WHICH WILL BE REBATE in 5 months statements(maxis, celcom i dont know),the difference is not as big as these cheaters claim, which are the figure highlighted red in the table..even celcom is actually lower than digi on some storage size!!! think malaysians are stupid is it??flame me if i'm wrong

it's NOT supposed to be professional, you really think I'm going to push Maxis or whatever here? You think I'm working for them or something? Just a customer here trying to get the best value for his money, and dissatisfied with DiGi's marketing tricks is all.

I didn't go through moderfader's post yet, but the point is there is NO more old DiGi138. Instead they've switched the numbers around and went about crowing about their brand new and best yet "deal". Which is misleading to say the least.

Creative Marketing? heh.

um, I can compare between the plans and value so forth. but for actual one, I can't really cos' I don't live where you are and coverage would widely differ I think. Probably discuss with some of the KL users in Maxis thread or DiGi thread? they can give you a much better view I suppose.

Try before their line( DIGI) when I fed up of two days of FB and Twitter SMS Update downtime last year December, their line is okay but when I go Amcorp Mall,Petaling Jaya, their 3G signal not good.... but when I use Maxis, Maxis line smooth,... only slight problem...

but I dunno abt other place.. icon_question.gif hmm.gif sad.gif

That is the downside of Digi, poor network coverage on some key areas including KLCC. I rather pay more for better network smile.gif

But of course, Maxis also got its downside. But their support via twitter is very fast. thumbup.gif

Maxis has it's own issues too. There has been a lot of coverage issues with Maxis lately.

I believe when you signed your contract you knew it was for 24 months. So it was clearly stated. I rather you not call it a scam because you are misleading people . DiGi packaged it for those who want to pay less upfront than buying the phone over 2k.

QUOTE(katnl @ Jul 31 2012, 11:55 AM)

Added on July 31, 2012, 11:59 am

yeah, very true.

I don't believe you understand the point of my grievance. This was never about DiGi vs Maxis, or the term of the contract.

It's about packing an old thing and branding it new.

Govt gave DiGi a low spectum compared to Maxis and Celcom so they suffer when it comes to indoor coverage. It's not entirely their fault when telco licenses are regulated in this wonderful country. Not everyone understands the reason why indoor coverage for DiGi is bad. Most of it due to spectrum issues.

it's NOT supposed to be professional, you really think I'm going to push Maxis or whatever here? You think I'm working for them or something? Just a customer here trying to get the best value for his money, and dissatisfied with DiGi's marketing tricks is all.

I didn't go through moderfader's post yet, but the point is there is NO more old DiGi138. Instead they've switched the numbers around and went about crowing about their brand new and best yet "deal". Which is misleading to say the least.

Creative Marketing? heh.

And yet, don't know is plan stupid or ignorant for the fact.

They use phone allowance ( cheap phone rm 699 ) to cover airtime (full paid rm135)
VS
they use airtime ( only paid rm88 ) to cover no phone allowance ( full phone price rm 2k+ ) ????

Please, you are an adult, although I really doubt it.

and your point is? or do you even have one?

did you even read the thread? do you understand the grievance here?

why are you repeating everything that's been said, and throwing random insults for no reason? if you have something to say, say it. instead of repeating it in your head and convincing yourself how smart you are. that's what crazy people do.

so what's your grievance? Your intention in your original post is clear; you are dissing Digi because you think that their new promotion is a scam. That is incorrect. Packing an old promo and branding it new? Not a scam either. It is, lawfully and technically and even essentially, a new promo. What don't you understand from the posts above who corrected you on your grievances? Complaining about how they try to scam and trick you into subscribing for a new promo is one thing, but actually trying to convince audience that they are running a scam is another. The figures are up on their website. When you go to a Digi center, if you even care to ask, they will explain it to you. You are not obliged to subscribe to them unless you really want to.

you are not wrong, man. however, I also do have my views. from a customer viewpoint, they are trying to deceive me by packaging something as completely new when it is just repackaged. scam may be a strong word, but who's to say when does creative marketing turn into complete deception? it's personal opinion.

so for that, I beg to differ.

Digi 5gb rm88 but most of the areas cannot get 3g sometimes not even edge. City areas should be ok lo.

I'm having both maxis & digi, compared maxis coverage anytime better than digi at most areas. Just waiting for my digi plan to end. Going to change my other line to maxis as well. smile.gif

For me service comes first, price second.

I'm using Digi data plan for about 2 years, well, their coverage really sucks, especially when you are in East Malaysia. So with my new ipad, i'm using celcom, really does much more better job than DiGi. Will consider changing to Celcom once my Digi contract finish.

Nope, has been using Celcom for the past few months, but this is pure DATA plan only, no calls or sms.

RM48 per month, auto debit from credit card, and never been charged more than that. Once exceed quota(1 Gb for my plan), connection becomes slow, buy yet still cool to use in lots of interior area in Sarawak.

Well, in Malaysia it will only arrive at the year's end, based on past model launch.

Maxis smile.gif

because:

1) Coverage
2) Customer Svc ( although sometimes bad)
3) Data management
4) Connection speed ( depends where you are)

In terms of coverage, I am horrified by DiGi. More likely, I would be switching back to Maxis or subscribe to Celcom because of superior coverage. And as far as I know, Celcom doesn't charge after quota exceeded.

QUOTE(katnl @ Jul 29 2012, 09:21 PM)
