Last week, I've used this road, started from Batu Rakit, Kuala Terengganu -> Kota Bharu -> Jeli all over to Gerik, then using the Jeniang-Sik old road until taking the Gurun highway exit to my final destination, Kangar, Perlis.
My family & my colleague's family started the journey from Batu Rakit at 10pm, arrive at KB 12am, then drifting thru Jeli-Gerik winding & hilly road around wee hours, reaching Gerik at 3am, then the Pengkalan Hulu-Baling hilly road again, reaching Gurun highway exit around 430am & finally Kangar, Perlis around 7am on next day.
My comment on my very own personal experience: Although the road there during the wee hours is very foggy (using HIGHBEAM will render you blind because of limited visibility) & i had to rely HEAVILY on the road's white stripes & signboards + PapaGO GPS (the GPS shows 90 degrees corner, some even got ~180 degrees corners as well!
), there is no ghost, apparition, Cik Pontianak, Dracula or whatsoever.
I think when you are driving & getting tired, your MIND starts to think irrationally; creating unnecessary objects that don't exist.
Few advices before taking the dangerous Gerik-Jeli & Pengkalan Hulu-Gerik-Baling roads
- get long rest/sleep
- stock up on Livita/Poweroot Tongkat Ali drinks
- smokes (if you're a smoker)
- check your car (engine oil, coolant, tyre pressure ,etc)
If all of these are checked, then you can safely + happily drift/uphill/downhill battle the Gerik-Jeli or Pengkalan Hulu-Gerik-Baling dangerous road after midnite!
PS - Watch out for cows & elephants though.
