Hi, fellow lowyat forumers, i m starting a group of enthusiast for hack and mods for this awesome product ! the TP-link WR703N, basically it is a tiny computer without graphical interface, those with background in programming or wish to learn some are highly welcome ! Also, since this product is not yet available in malaysia, i m finding fellow enthusiats to wish to purchase with me as i place an order. Bulk order will be cheaper ! price around RM60-70 import from china. if more ppl buy then we can reduce the price !

QUOTE
The TL-WR703N is marketed as a "3G travel router". It does not include a 3G modem - it simply means that the OEM firmware supports USB 3G modems, and that the oem firmware contains drivers for USB modems! Ridiculous, since with OpenWrt ANY router with USB supports 3G hardware… ;-)

The device was released in August 2011 in China.

From openwrt.org

QUOTE
It must be reflashed with OpenWRT Linux, where most necessary program modules exist, however not everything is compatible with Debian Linux. Can add USB hub, USB stick, USB sound card, bluetooth, webcam, 3G modem, 1-wire USB or serial module, connect to Arduino, set up Wifi client, place home webserver on router.

This has the same internal hardware as the TL-WR703N, but its case is a little bigger (7.4cm x 6.7cm).

Unless you've been living under the geek equivalent of a rock for the past six months you'll have heard of the Raspberry Pi project. The embedded device they are building will offer incredible power for the $25 it is projected to cost when launched in November 2011. A slightly higher specification 'Model B' (with more memory and a 10/100Mbps Ethernet interface) will cost around $10 more.

The prospect of having a well specified device the size of a credit card, consuming minimal power, that can run Linux is tempting many (including your author).

what can it do?
-connect to usb 3g modem
-connect to external hdd
-connect to usb camera and use as ipcam (cheaply)
-automate a home server
-many more since of its linux system.

Wouldn't mind joining your bulk although I already have a MR3020 haha. RM60-70 all in, including shipping? No problems with bringing in a WiFi device which technically requires SIRIM approval? What's the timeframe you're looking at?

Cheers!

Why do a bulk when you can buy a single unit at Digital Mall / Lowyat Plaza for less than RM70 ???

The prices for the TL-MR3020 is only RM69.00 at All-IT Mall or AOne Plus at PJ Digital Mall... member price is even cheaper...

The non-3G version TL-WR702N is only RM59.00 at ALL-IT Mall... ( depend on stock availability, Low Yat branch have lots of stocks, PJ branch no more stocks )

What I like about the TL-MR3020 is that it uses mini-USB instead of the new micro-USB connectors...

I'm using one as my portable 3G/Wifi for my iPad but I wanted to purchase another unit, open it up to integrate it with Arduino directly using Serial TTL...

http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-mr3020

Let keep up the discussion on what project can we do with this small and powerful little wireless router/appliance..

The 703n got more support and projects around the world afaik; although they are similiar. just wanted to mention that the 703N is very small (about 2/3 the size of the MR3020) and it's relatively simple to flash OpenWrt from the web interface (even though the menus are in Chinese). The non 3g version has no usb port. and its memory is only 2mb which cannot support custom firmware.

This will take less than a week by air. (5-7days)

The 702 is the crippled low RAM non-OpenWRT-able version for the local Chinese market, IIANM.

I too have the 3020, but it's big compared to the 703N, and I don't like the mini USB interface when everything else have moved on to micro USB biggrin.gif

I've had 3 bids for 703N cancelled on eBay after the sellers claimed the units they were selling were no longer available, bah...

If I'm motivated enough, may try to flash the 3020 with DDWRT/OpenWRT this weekend...hopefully...

So how? I think let's wait a while to see if we can get more people on board. How do you propose to do this? We pay this fella separately, and get him to ship the item to our individual addresses?

The maths is wrong somewhere ...

The total should be : RM50.40 + RM18/(number of people ordering) = RM XX

Why are you charging everyone 1Kg for such a small little package..??

It probably comes with China power socket instead of the UK version for Malaysia...
