Most cars are not proper 5 seaters. Not sure if the Alza was one or not, but I don't think so. It's perfectly fine for 4, but more than that...? Dead giveaway: Is there a 3 point seatbelt in the center or not. If yes, then it was designed as a 5 seater. If not the center seat is just to be used for emergencies.
Other signs: No hump on the center seat (i.e. a proper seat is molded there) and poper headrests for all passengers (that can be pulled out... the top of the headrest should be at least at the same height as the top of the passengers head, otherwise it is useless in protecting the passenger and you are risking serious injuries to the neck).
http://www.angurten.de/Bilder/fotosets/citroen-xsara-012.jpg for example scores 2 out of 3. In terms of safety it's good, however it could be more comfortable.
http://www.renault.ch/central/media/---nou...92__acce_10.jpg is good.
http://www.motor-talk.de/images/News/2006-...99pix1hires.jpg even better, although the 3rd row is for kids only as the distance between floor and bench is way too small, you'd be sitting on a small part of your backside only.

i dont believe that..as it is not even been given euro NCAP rating..maybe proton didnt test with euro NCAP..what i know, the exora is made to meet 4star euro ncap..but it doesnt mean it is rated as 4stars euro ncap as exora is not listed in the euro ncap website..since people like to judge with accident picture, the picture below shows that exora is about the same with avanza:
http://preoduavivabaru.blogspot.com/2010/1...y-of-exora.htmlto ts, if u want to have a spacious 5 seater, get the alza, as the mid row seat can be moved aft for a very big legroom space..
EuroNCAP picks the cars they test themselves, according on if it is actually on sale in Europe and whether it relevant enough for Europeans. The Exora is neither of those things. But if they chose to test a car, they will go out and buy one themselves, they AFAIK don't take manufacturer supplied ones (cause they can be tinkered with and be specially prepared).
However there is a new thing coming, Asean NCAP, which are supposed to test in Malaysia according to the EuroNCAP standards (and with the help of the other NCAP programs like EuroNCAP). So far they have only tested a Vios, and have not published the results yet, but I hope the program gets into full force soon. They should be testing what we actually get to drive over here, all the downgraded cars.
To be honest I didn't think the Alza was a bad car. Spent some time from KL to JB in the 2nd row and in front, and it seemed to be a decent car. Felt a bit cheap, but that's fine given that it is actually cheap. Refined enough though.
