i was considering another possiblities which will be :
Significant improvement : buy a USB soundcard (PSC805)
So-so improvement : buy a headamp
if she bought an headamp, she still powering it on AC97 (notebook soundcard) so it will make sound loud only, as the output by ac97 is already quite low quality.
i still thinking, if she using her HP1000 with PC805, it might sound better as pc805 have enough power to push it.

own a shp805 now, and do you guys think it is wise to upgrade it to a shp895?

or should i aim higher? like grado sr60 or even senheiser hd555?

owners please advice! anyways i posted my one week old shp805 for sale in garage already, hehehe.

looks like ive purchased a headphone that's too far of high performance to be listened to my mp3/laptop without having to add any expensive side stuffs.

well, u can jus ignore wat other ppl said n satisfy with wat u hav. u doesnt hav to go for the best. u hav choices. choose who to listen to wisely. most importantly, listen to ur wallet carefully

the problem now is no money le. no money nothing can b done.

n also, tat is only the case if she can hear the difference. she is stil quite new to this hobby. if she cant hear the difference, wat for pay so much money for the amp, soundcard n all? she listen to mp3 mostly (i assume). wat kind of quality do u expect from tat source? mayb u can say get better CDs, amp, soundcard, mp3 player... these things will  cost her a lot.

supazta: my advice is test the amps/soundcard/wateva u wanna buy with ur setup and play the songs u usually listen to. buy if u can hear the difference (of coz, a good difference la...) n if ur wallet allows

Tried 890 before, after using for like 30 minutes, my ears are like BBQ, HOT!

But I prefer 895 design more. 

If you have stone ears like mine, you wont really hear much of a difference between MP3s and Lossless formats
So dont worry too much about it
Only if your ears are like mine la of course

i tested my HP1000 with various settings

1. onboard lappy soundcard.
2. PSC805 Philip ext soundcard.
3. onboard wif mini-eph
4. PSC805 Philip with mini-eph

All oso sounds the same to me, xcept its louder wif amp.

then i tried my bro's RM 45 no-brand headphone
it sounds the same oso!!!

1 question here..did HP1000 face the same 'crack' problem as HP890?

wanna ask, is the hp895 good for techno?
my bro likes techno and dance music, been playing o2jam very frequently lately, and he is using my SR80!! it hurts 
and recently he loves to use headphones rather than his altec lansing. so thought get him a headphone.

used the hp805 before and of course i wouldnt wanna buy back the same one for him, and furthermore i kinda like the hp895 

I even saw someone wearing hp beside a street..LoL ..
