Dxmn the packing is nice.
1 semi transparance cover + 1 hard cover + 1 i don't know what it call box, then inside the box somemore got cloth then baru HP1000.

I asked my gf which do she prefer from the outlook.

I fully understand your love towards the HP890; they are the best for the price you paid, no doubt. But why can't you just accept that there are a handful of headphones out there that outperforms the 890s? Name a few: HP1k, HD600, RS1 (not going to mention anything from AKG here)... Yes, they cost significantly more than the HP890 but in fact they are better performers.

my HP895 interconnection wire broken, thinking to re-cable it by making a Y-connector direct solder to the driver. maybe need drilling a hole on right side to insert the cable.

Summary: Good set of headphones. Unforgiving unless you have good lossless music files to enjoy them

Background
If there is one word to describe the SHP9000, it would be "Precise" with a capital "P".  It is comfortable and easy to wear. Construction wise, it feels plasticky but not to the point of being cheap and fragile. On the contrary, it does feel solid and tough enough to drop them a few times (no, I have not dropped them!)

Soundstage
This cans has a rather wide soundstage and the breadth and depth to allow me to perceive the placements of every single instruments. It can at times, make you feel distant which is important for classical pieces. There is enough space to place everything and properly pick out each instrument. Vocals are forwardly projected and comfortable to listen without being in your face.

Bass
Controlled, however, lacks the "oomph" for the heavy stuff that you need for rock songs. It is a little drowned out by the mids and highs. Don't get me wrong, it is not that there is a lack of bass, its just that I am more overwhelmed by the mids and highs more, therefore, the bass "seems" less emphasized. Deep thumping song lovers might need to drive this properly, but it is sufficient for non boom boom songs

Mids
Its forward projection is comfortable. There is definitely good points here as its clarity helped in bring out nuances that are usually difficult to hear. Decays are good and crisp throughout and not abrupt. There is a follow-thru that is natural. A lot of times, I find myself asking, "Is that how it really sounds like?". However, it can do with a little mellowing (probably after some burn-in time)

Highs
Another good point for the SHP9000. Highs were excellent without being straining to the ears. It sung clear, without "chopping" (my description: when a note goes higher and higher, it seems like it can and will continue to go higher instead of stopping at a certain point). Not that I can hear what dogs hear, but it felt that way (must have been a dog in my previous life lol)

Clarity
OMFGWTFBBQ!!! I hear things!
I hear EVERY drop of the "sand thing" within the "sand shaker" instrument when I was listening to Canon in D (FIM).
In some songs, I can even hear the flute player straining for breath. Brings out everything and is unforgiving about it. Not harsh on the ears, unless you plug direct to source then it becomes uncomfortably "hard" and "biting"

More notes: Sarah Brightman does not sound good. Found out that she has "manufactured" her voice... (was a fan... before I really heard her)

Pros
Sufficient soundstage with room for lows and highs without being "choppy". Shines when you have a lossless music library OR better! And good amps to match. Discerning ears like me would love this.

Cons
Can be too precise and unforgiving. Everything can and will be heard. Made my existing music library sound like cr@p. I hear clipping noises. I now need to re-rip all my music files into lossless.  Wire is too long for my personal taste at 4m!!! Might need to recable it so that it is more portable friendly.

Overall
Get it if you love jazz/classical/vocals/choral/gospel/you get the idea. Sounds good with electronica (Kylie's song "Slow" is my fave with this). EXPENSIVE Music library will be required > think FIM

If you like boom boom songs, bass heavy deep thumping genres, you might need to drive it properly.

Personally, I think a tube amp will be able to mellow it a bit and give it some warmth as I think there is something missing from this headphone but I just can place my finger on... I think my current amp is not doing it justice as this cans needs to be driven with more power to shine. Anybody with a tube amp want to comment on how it sounds paired? Mellowed down mids and highs? Bigger bass?

Disclaimer: no prior experience in audiophile...

thats what i thought. HP9000 sounds need to be warmer thats y i was thinking of tube amping it.

LDM+ or most solid state amps are too "clear" for an already "clear" headphones.

LDM+ memang bringt sounding amp pun.

no. it;s because the other side, will pass through another cable to channel the signal to right driver. hence it has more resistance compared to the left side where the cable is shorter.
modification can be done by adding extra cable, exactly same with the right side driver into the left driver.
hence both has equal impedance.
usually the sound different is hardly noticeable. but perhaps ur case is extreme, or you have super sensitive ear. hence u able to detect the different.

Thats what i thot, since the cable connection is on one side, the signal is passed from one side to the other hence might have resistance or delay for the signal to arrive on the right.
but it is quite noticeable in the bass only... voice projection is dead centre though. and so are the highs...
if its signal, all frequency range should be affected.

dont think i have sensitive ears, just very very very strong concentration! 

anyways, getting it sent back to be fixed

another question:
which amp does the HP1000 or HP9000 pairs the best with in your experience?
just to test my theory:
i think tube amps works best for such an unforgiving headphones (warms it up a bit)
frequency response must also match: cheaper solution would be LDM tube...
