i'm pretty new to smartphones so.... is this s3 just another smartphone as usual .... or is it one of those game changers in the smartphone arena ?

it looks to me as if there seems to be an unusual amount of fever going around in getting this particular model in 2012 :/ hm...

S3 is the new 'face' of Android, as claimed by a website that I read just now. biggrin.gif

I was just like you were before my first major purchase of a smartphone.

It's actually pretty easy to make a decision cause there are so many avenues now with information about these phones. Not just the SIII.

1. Watch youtube videos of reviews. There are tonnes! watch all if you want to. I used to watch tonnes of it before buying stuff.

2. Go to websites like engadget, pocketnow, phonedog, phonarena, or any other gadget site and there are tonnes of written/vlogs of reviews of phones. even side by side comparisons. I particularly like the layout of mobile88 (which is a local site) when comparing phones.

3. Go to a samsung centre/apple store, and play the hell out of their demo phones. It's no crime to just stand there and flip through the phone (assuming not many are waiting in line) and try out almost everything they have. You can even do that in a maxis centre or any other telco that has these demos.

Cheers mate. Think carefully and survey everything before buying

jelly bean is that a newer android firmware ? will the s3 be able to update to that ?

also from my understanding, the s3 uses a touch wiz 5 vs touch sense 4 gui. so even if it could upgrade to jelly bean, is it likely the gui would be able to utilize the multi tasking features of that original android firmware upgrade ? or will it still be using a slightly gimped touch wiz 5 still :/ ?

If you have the Samsung Galaxy S3 and you want to get your hands on Jelly Bean but don’t want to wait there is good news. Courtesy XDA there is a CyanogenMod 10 CM10 available for the S3.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update via CM10

The update comes from XDA Developers who brought Jelly Bean to the Samsung Galaxy S3. However it is not quite ready to be used every day as there are some features missing such as camera not being stable, Wi-Fi tethering not working and FM radio is missing. However you can enjoy Project Butter and Google Now. If you want to install it then follow the steps below. Bear in mind that it will only work with the i9300 model of the S III. Proceed at your own risk.

How to install

Install the CM9 ROM on the Galaxy S3 from the XDA-Developers forum thread. Then download the Google App package, and copy the ROM and App package onto the SD card.
Switch off the Galaxy S3 to boot into ClockworkMod recovery.
Pressing Volume Up, the Home button, and the power button together will boot into the recovery mode.
When the screen turns on, stop pressing the buttons. Wait a moment and a list of options will be presented; navigation is done through the volume buttons (up/down) and selecting options is done via the Home button.
Navigate to "wipe data/factory reset," select the option, and then "Yes" to confirm.
After the aforementioned information is wiped, choose the install zip option from the SDcard.
Navigate to the ROM file, and select "Yes" again to begin installation.
Once installation is complete, choose the zip file again and the Google Apps package "gapps-jb-20120703.zip" file. After being selected, return to the main recovery menu and select the option to reboot.

just bought the ori flip cover.
there's no other flip cover better than the original 1. install a apps that wake up and lock the screen by flipping the cover to reduce the use of the power button, some how i feel this phone power button is too soft, hardly feel the kinetic when pressing.

SME = Samsung Malaysia Electronics, the original distro of samsung for s3

getting from telco is good, provided that u pick the plan which is around what you use monthly, so you will not feel the whole thing expensive
