Can anyone explain to me about volumetric weight?

Pos Laju stated volumetric weight applies when any of the dimension exceed 30cm. Both Pos Laju and GDex state weight calculation is based on actual or volumetric, whichever is higher.

I'm so confused by that. The way I see it, a parcel could easily exceed 30cm in its length, so does that mean most parcels will have to use volumetric weight? Also is the charges using volumetric weight higher than charges for actual weight?

Sorry if my questions do not make sense or too stupid for some. I'm seriously a noob in this. icon_question.gif

Yes the rule is always that, if I'm not mistaken, it applies to any post office in the world. Only that Poslaju or Pos Malaysia rarely enforce it. It depends on your luck too. They might use volumetric weight if the shape of ur parcel is very irregular, like a poster tube (you know la if send a piece of poster, the real weight might be very light, hence the volumetric weight applies).

Generally volumetric weight is heavier than actual, but not necessarily. They will use whichever is heavier. The rate is same, so it will be more expensive if ur volumetric weight is heavier than actual. Or vice versa.

Formula to calculate: (Length x Width x Height in cm) / 6000 = volumetric weight in kg.

Actually most couriers now seem to use divide by 5000 rather than 6000 to calculate volumetric weight smile.gif

Owhh, didn't know that. Yeah more profit for them then wink.gif.

I guess Pos Malaysia/Poslaju still divide by 6000.

they will compare the vol. weight and actual weight and choose the heavier one to bill you

if the parcel is heavy enough, of course they wont waste their time to measure the dimension

Regular or not, their system calculates on 5000 wink.gif if you're regular you just get a $ discount from standard rate!

my mistake. the ones who got the 6000 rates are those companies who used 6000 since the beginning. and when changed to 5000, they complaint and receive the same rate as before

If their online calculator is anything to go by then still 6000, although wouldn't be suprised if the website is out of date.

FWIW, couriers these days all use 5000, air cargo / forwarders still on 6000
