U can change it without updating anyone. Of course you may wan to note the actual milleage for future oil change/service reasons.

I also changed my wife's ol 660 Kancils meter for a L2 Turbo unit just to hv tat techometer to properly tune it. Milleage difference between both was about 80K km.
