Guys,
I plan to change new meter to my car (since the meter I have now is faulty).

I need to know, what happen to my current mileage if I change the meter?

To make things clear, I have clocked 97,000km in my faulty meter, but if I wanna change to new meter (which i get from chop shop), it only clocked 55,000km.

Im afraid I will have problem if I decide to sell it in future.

Anybody know is there any right procedure to change car meter i.e puspakom / jpj etc to make this legal..

Need help icon_question.gif

depends if the odometer can be swapped over. certain cars you can interchange the odometer inside the cluster.

if not, only thing you can do is take a picture side by side when doing the swap, and keep a note in your log book that you changed the cluster. so you can show your future buyer next time.

i doubt jpj/puspakom will be interested in knowing this matter.

U can change it without updating anyone. Of course you may wan to note the actual milleage for future oil change/service reasons.

I also changed my wife's ol 660 Kancils meter for a L2 Turbo unit just to hv tat techometer to properly tune it. Milleage difference between both was about 80K km.

if it is for my own use, there shouldnt be a problem

but my concern now is because i plan to sell it in future as i dont plan to keep my kelisa forever..

im afraid if it is not properly documented, then nobody want to buy it..

(i really need to change this meter now.. really troublesome to drive without knowing what is my speed and how much gas left.. the rpm still move though rclxub.gif )

You can request the shop to adjust the odometer for you..

may I know what car? if mercedes benz post 2000 it wil indicate 999,999km or miles. Unless you program it at mercedes/specialist shop.

Most mechanic now have the tool to reset such an instrument.

BMW and Audi also will give something like ---- if you just change the cluster.

Some BMW models in particular will not even start as it is connected to the ECU or some kind of immobilizer.

This is to discourage tampering with the mileage. It is illegal in Europe/UK and USA to tamper the actual mileage.

In the UK this is called clocking and it is a serious crime.
