Everton manager David Moyes is stepping up his pursuit of Belgium midfielder Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe after ordering a form report of him in European action on Thursday night.

Eager to bolster Everton’s impressive push for a top-four finish in the Barclays Premier League, Moyes has earmarked Odjidja-Ofoe ’s energy as the ideal addition to his midfield and is ready to try and sign him at the second attempt when the January transfer window opens.

A deadline-day bid in August was thwarted by red tape, but Moyes is back on the trail of the 23-year-old after dispatching one of his top scouts to watch him in Bruges’ Europa League tie with Bordeaux.

DAVID MOYES admits Everton need to add competition to their squad – as the Blues are linked with a surprise move for goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

“We need competition in all areas and that extends to Tim Howard in goal, absolutely,” said Moyes. “Everybody has got to make sure they are at the top of their game. We have got to make sure we are not continually giving away things, making mistakes that are leading to goals which cost us.

“We need competition and there hasn’t been enough of that in the last few weeks when we’ve had a few injuries. It is something we have to think about in January.”

According to TV2 in Norway, Vegard Forren will be on Merseyside either tomorrow (Tuesday) or Wednesday to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed move to Everton in January.

David Moyes has watched the defender play for Norwegian champions Molde and reportedly met with his manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last week about the possibility of signing the 24 year-old.

Talks were deemed to be at an advanced enough stage for Molde to allow their player of the year to travel to England and hopefully put the finishing touches on his move to Goodison Park when the window opens.

DAVID MOYES will finally sit down with Everton chief Bill Kenwright in the New Year and talk about his contract.
Boss Moyes, 49, is in the final months of his deal and has constantly insisted he wants to wait until the end of the season before deciding his future.

He said: “I want to see how we’re going and where we’re looking to move in the future.

“But it will be in the New Year when I talk to Bill about that.”

Midfielder Jack Rodwell’s £12million summer move to Manchester City brought in cash and the team has hardly suffered in his absence.

Boss Moyes said: “I’d like to add if we can, that will be the hardest thing. I don’t fear losing anyone.”

He added: “I have learned you can’t play one way. We went 4-4-2 and won in a different way.

“And it was a good lift for us to win without Marouane Fellaini.”

Leroy Fer yesterday set his sights  on helping Everton return to Europe after he completed an £8.6million move from Twente.

The Holland international, 23, has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract after Everton boss David Moyes spent a week working on the deal to land  the midfielder.

Fer, who started his career at  Feyenoord, took a private jet from  Rotterdam yesterday afternoon.

‘Everton are in the top five at  the moment and they have a real chance of playing in Europe next  season,’ said Fer. ‘Since I was a young boy, I have always wanted to play in the English Premier League.

‘And now the fact that I am going to do it with one of the biggest teams in the Premier League makes this move even more special.’

Fer, whose strapping physique earned him the nickname ‘The Bouncer’ in  Holland, hit the headlines last year after splashing out £22,000 on a pet horse for his girlfriend — only to realise that she couldn’t keep the stallion because she lived in a block of flats.
