QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Oct 22 2016, 11:31 PM) Hi guys, good (and quite surprised!) to find a gardening thread here in LYN Yeah seems cili needs a lot of sun. So don't know how well it wjll grow on my balcony. I heard aloe can grow even indoors. So I'm not sure. I'm currently just growing whatever has seeds haha. Just planted some ladies finger seeds today....It is kind of sad that gardening is not that popular with the younger generation Anyways, I am picking up some gardening skills as well, I understand how soothing and satisfying it can be looking at the plants grow and fruit. Perhaps we can learn from one another I think chilly and aloe vera will require quite alot of direct sunlight to grow properly |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Oct 23 2016, 01:20 PM) Cili is kind of tricky, I have 2 purple ones from India. Sometimes they grow very well, sometimes they die off and then recover and flower again  Yeah but the ladies finger is quite a big plant so dunno how thats gonna do. Might have to put it on the outside ledge where my -aircon compressor is haha. Got lots f space out there. As long as your balcony is exposed to the sun for more then 4-5 hours per day I think many plants that love sun will be able to adapt accordingly. Yeah, aloe vera should grow, but have to make sure it gets as much sunlight as possible, and not too much water lo, a very useful plant to have Would love to plant ladies fingers someday hehe, please do keep us updated~ All the best |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Oct 27 2016, 11:16 AM) Sharing my Coleus (known as Hati-hati in BM) plants Wow nice! Seems you got a nice container garden happening there.[attachmentid=7880880] This plant is hugely popular because of their colorful foliage which will give your garden that extra WOW factor! Some more they are quite easy to take care of and don't cost much~ I'm trying to start a Coleus collection but I've made a big mistake- I forgot to make sure I get all the varieties with the same leaf sizes! XD |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Oct 27 2016, 11:41 PM) Thanks man! yeah veggies quite cool. kinda like useful plant hahah. im thinking to try japanese cucumber. but as im in condo, seems gotta pollinate all the flowers by hand otherwise no fruit. Currently its just a very simple garden, hope to size it up when there's more space I also plan to start growing some vegetables as well haha QUOTE(audy @ Oct 28 2016, 03:03 PM) Wah, good to know got gardening kaki here. I am starting on herbs plants and recently bought Sweet Basil plant. I already have Indian Borage which is growing so fast and super easy to take care of. Gonna buy mint, rosemary and maybe oregano next. new kaki here heheh. My aloe plant is thriving though at one point when it was first given to me, it nearly died that week. I have not much luck with succulents...so many have died on me. I am now very motivated to start my own vegetable pot garden. I live in highrise so space is limited at balcony. Hope to get some gardening tips and photos sharing from fellow gardening enthusiasts here. yeah i wanna get some rosemary and aloe. hope can find some this weekend. i got some mint, but its a bit annoying as its like a weed. i just repotted it because the leaves were so small. after research they said there is so many roots that it suffocates itself. hai... stupiak plant haha. dunno what to do with all the mint thouhg... |

QUOTE(audy @ Oct 28 2016, 03:14 PM) You can give away your mints to family and friends maybe will do that slowly haha. im thinking to start a new pot and just get rid of the mother plant. the cuttings ive rooted seem to be growing much much better. I have tomato plants., gotten a few batches of fruits already and looking to plant new ones. The pollinating will be slower....sometimes I will just shake it with my hands to help it along my tomato plant is still growing steadily. in condo its a bit hard to get such strong sunlight. so i guess thats why. seems all growing though, so thats good. hehe. i just grabbed a tomato and squeezed the seeds into the soil... so easy it shocked me ahaha. same for my cili padi plant. but yah. seems all need sun. dunno how im gonna manage that... |

QUOTE(audy @ Oct 28 2016, 03:35 PM) Actually when my young tomato plant was growing, I put them under direct sunlight. Then suddenly as they grew taller, they seem to not be able to handle direct heat anymore. Now I put the plants in a shaded area but it's bright enough. The leaves are looking dry each time when I get home from work. I also planted some cili from seeds...they have sprouted but their growth seem to be stunted at 5-6 inches...maybe cos they are in the same pot as the tomatoes. I am going to repot them this weekend and hopefully they will start growing again. Same goes to my lemon. yeah they say tomato and cili need quite a bit space. i guess each need their own pot. right now my tomato growing in the 1l coke bottle, just cut in half. once its bigger gonna move it to a bigger pot. my cili still so puny. but got so many of them. i keep removing them, but they keep sprouting.... i dont know how many biji i threw in there... a bit craazy. like grass hahah. |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Oct 30 2016, 02:50 PM) Welcome welcome yeah those are real sifu. mixing soils lah, using perilite lah, mixing species etc. im just like hmm. soil, check. seed, check. water check. sun, check. ok. grow seeds grow! hahaha. Are you still planting? I plan to grow lime too~ I noticed that one of the most important things in starting out at gardening is ensuring that the soil is well drained I made a terrible mistake in using soil found on the ground for my first few plants and needless to say many plants died because the soil became too soggy haha Nowadays I just buy all-purpose planting-ready soil which is pretty convenient to use. The chances of plants dying are also lower since the soil are properly mixed with different components that strike a balance in nutrients, water retention, weight etc. I know some experts who like to mix their own individual components for that added specificity since different plants may require slightly different growing conditions. I hope I will be good as them some day haha QUOTE(owenwong84 @ Oct 30 2016, 05:23 PM) Yes... yeah, im also trying to increase my usable garden, because sometimes you only need a little bit, but no choice to buy a whole bunch. my cili currently is similar to yours. but i already trimmed a lot of them off. now just aroudn 10 left, and will keep trimming till left two of the strongest. [attachmentid=7906726] From left to right, 1st and 2nd is chili. 3rd is lime i want to grow those easy and fast like spring onion, herbs for cooking use. Next i want to try is spring onion which is look easy but the green stop at 1cm and never grow taller anymore. spring onion never yet tried. but yesterday planted some purple veggie that my wife bought. no idea what it is though. hahah. just cut the roots and plant. we will see how it goes... |

QUOTE(audy @ Oct 31 2016, 09:05 AM) Wow your pots are really deep yeah i need to get a hold of more planter boxes. right now growing things in those hanging pots as they are way cheaper. medium sized pot only RM2-3 planter is RM20+ (baba) but planters do look better. hehe. i growing my kangkung in daiso planter box though. only RM5, but its small, but i think its ok. going to try to harvest in 1-2 weeks. if i keep cutting the kangkung instead of replanting new seeds, will it still have a nice taste? or will the taste change? anyone know? My current project is planting veggies on a planter box just sowed some japanese cucumber (green world) last night. they say in 40 days can harvest. quite excited hahah. hope they grow. first time planting from bought seeds. planted in organic soil i picked up yesterday from the nursery. currently using old kiwi box to see if they sprout. *pray* hahah |

QUOTE(audy @ Oct 31 2016, 12:16 PM) You will need to put stake for your cucumber plant to climb so a deep container will be good. I made a mistake with my tomato using those rectangle small planter box...they grew to about 5 ft and my planter box wasn't deep enough to support the stick so I had to tie the stick to my balcony railing...but the stem is still falling here and there...looking very messy. thanks. yeah i gotta go get a big pot as i just used my container for my tomato plant. i got a few smaller stakes, but 5ft! hmm. need to consider getting longer ones then heheh. my cucumbers have all sprouted, planted 12 seeds.... now got 12 seedlings... dunno what to do with them, maybe go plant them at my parents house hahah. |

QUOTE(TaqiyAbdullah @ Nov 4 2016, 09:34 AM) Hello everyone i dunno, but is that really necessary? i think just use the water from when you rinse your rice grains is enough. as long as not hydroponic system.Im just starting my small organic garden on my yard area, and there is few of flowers and green plants. I ve googled that good organic source of nitrogen is alfafa meal and blood meal, and bone meal can supply good amount of phosphorus. Ive tried alfafa meal before but my plants got burnt cause its fast composing process. I tried googling around for blood meal and bone meal near klang valley but canot find lor.. Anybody got any idea where can i find em? Thanks. |

QUOTE(owenwong84 @ Nov 8 2016, 11:31 PM) Fingercross... the chili grow so much crowded. Hope it won't die easily. Chili seems to be growing well. But you will need to get rid of most of them. Chili plant is quite big so just keep cutting them till only like few stalks. Then keep cutting till 1 left.My diy pot enough big? no need to transfer? izzit 2 months time expect to see chili ? QUOTE(Ginta0516 @ Nov 14 2016, 01:38 PM) Hello fellow gardeners! Never think of LYN has gardening thread before but somehow today I casually search for "Gardening" and found out this thread! for herbs, maybe just ask someone for cuttings. or just go to the nursery. they normally have rosemary, and mint for <RM15 for a healthy medium sized plant. Still new to gardening myself.. so far I have snake plant.. hawthornia.. okra.. guava.. lemon.. gonna start on mulberry.. Decide to grow some herbs as me myself love to use herbs in cooking.. but I have no idea where to get seeds of herbs.. for mint cuttings just put it in water and it will root and can just plant it. but mint is a weed so make sure to plant it in a pot to avoid it from overrunning your garden. |
