Hi there,
A friend of mine just recently gave me a little cactus as a gift. As my fren told me, i just need to water it 2 or 3 times a week, place it where there's sunlight, and that's it.

I just wanna know if anyone has a cactus, and the ways to take care of it. Coz my cactus has a beautiful flower on it. Share with me about it!

So if i want to put into a bigger pot, what kind of soil i need use for it? I heard that the soil has to be a mixture of certain soils.

Well, since i got this cactus, i've been always going to my garden and have a look at it everyday. I feel like i have a responsibility for this cactus.

Weird, huh? wink.gif

Hmm....looks like not many are interested in this thread. sweat.gif

cactus needs watering.. if not will die also. as long as the soil is moist is ok lah, not dusty/dry.

the cactuses frm cameron are WET cactuses.. too dry and they dieded on me vmad.gif
while the sahara ones are real DRY cactuses. tongue.gif

Well, my cactus is probably from camerons coz my fren bought it from there.
What's the difference between WET and DRY cactuses?

At kampung, kambing eats cactus you know. sweat.gif

Hahaha.....that's so funny! Well, it's interesting to know that goats can eat cactus. Fortunately, my place doesn't have any goats at all. smile.gif

I noticed that when the weather is rainy (no sun), the flower attached to my cactus seems to close immediately. But since today's weather was sunny, the flower seems to openly blossomed. It's as if the cactus has its own feelings or something. Really beautiful to see the flower blossomly open. biggrin.gif

Hey, guys. I just went to the flower nursery shop near my place. They told me that i needed some soils (light brown in colour) for cactus, which is good enough as they said. According to them, i can't just use normal soil coz it absorbs more water and will cause the cactus to rot.

Hope this info helps!

is there any difference with the cactus from cameron highlands and from other flower shop?

i got a small cactus with flower on it from cameron highlands.. shud i water it everyday? if yes, izzit at morning, afternoon or night?

im just new to caring the plants...
*
Well, u don't have to water it everyday, but at least every 2 to 3 days. Sometimes, u can water it once a week.

So, u also got the same cactus from cameron ah? Well, it's been 1 month since i got it from there. I'm planning to put it into a bigger pot soon. The soil you can get it from the flower shop. Ask them, and they would recommend a light-brown soil for the cactus. It only cost me RM 1.50. smile.gif However, it's best not to use peat soils as it absorbs water which is bad for the cactus.

Hope this helps.

my friend say add mayonis can grow faster

Honestly, i've never heard anything about this before. Well, i don't dare to try it but all i know is that you can put a certain fertilizers on the cactus' soil and then plant the cactus in it. This way, the cactus will also grow faster.

As far as i know, everytime when you put a cactus into bigger pot, it will definitely grow compared to leaving it in the same pot when u first bought it. It's ok if you dowan to transfer the cactus into a bigger pot coz it wouldn't die off, but it also wouldn't grow.

Hope this helps!

Wow!....Since 1998? That's a long time, dude. I figure it's time for you to transfer ur cactus into a bigger pot with better soils.

Tell me, where and how do u get those seeds?

Say, when should I repot a plant? My plant, a "dracaena massangeana", has mostly thin roots, but also fat roots that extend all the way down to the bottom of the pot. Should I repot it into a bigger pot already?
*
It's up to you really. Honestly, i'm not too sure what plant is taht you're having. Lolz. It all depends on the plant itself.

I've just googled about ur plant, and here's the website. http://www.dracaena.com/Massangeana.asp
