Michael Essien looks set to be the latest player to move in Chelsea's extensive summer makeover, with the Ghanaian midfielder attracting serious interest from Fenerbahce.

"My intention is to stay and I'm looking forward to a new season. I still have two more years here. I'm still here, I'm still around," Essien said. "Yes, the team is changing and there have been players going, new players coming in but that's how professional football is. You just have to deal with the situation and go out and perform for the team.

"I will play anywhere I am asked to play and it's always been that way with me. I work hard for the team, for Chelsea. I've played right-back and other positions and it's no problem."

That situation is complicated, however, by the fact that Essien hasn't played a single minute so far this season, with manager Roberto Di Matteo even going so far as to strengthen the very position Essien mentioned, by signing Cesar Azpilicueta from Marseille.

Hulk given deadline to decide future

Porto have given Hulk 24 hours to sort his future, with Chelsea, Zenit St Petersburg and, reportedly, Tottenham Hotspur interested in the striker.

I feel the squad is really good right now. Bringing in a big name like Hulk might disrupt that.

I dunno why, but i think going with someone like hulk is risky. I prefer some one like Schrulle, but that deal is unlikely. Will hulk play right or center forward? We just bought Moses and i want Torres to be the main man up front. Of course we need cover for that position, but its hard to imagine Hulk being Torres' backup. I'm actually happy with Sturridge at moment.

Age difference of Cole and Betrand is just nice, and RDM manage to play them together.

I don't think we need another midfielder? Lampard, Oscar, Meireles, + Ramires.

I see. It's true that we are only relying on Mikel for DM right now.
But its only a few days in the windows left, and nothing is heard about signing a midfielder. RDM may bring in one, or maybe he thinks Romeu is enough.

Chelsea ponder higher bid for Bayer Leverkusen's André Schürrle

Chelsea are considering making a final improved offer for Bayer Leverkusen's Germany international André Schürrle ahead of the closure of the transfer window on Friday night in a move that, if successful, would take their summer outlay on new players close to £100m. The European champions have been lavish spenders in the market having already revamped their forward line with the additions of Eden Hazard (£32m), Oscar (£20m), Marko Marin (£7m) and Victor Moses (£9m). The Spanish right-back Cesar Azpilicueta has also signed from Marseille for around £7m and, while that heavy recruitment has caught the eye, Roberto di Matteo has made no secret of the lack of central striker options should Fernando Torres suffer an injury at Stamford Bridge.

Drogba heading back to England after dropping in on former Chelsea team-mates

Didier Drogba dropped in to see his old Chelsea team-mates on Tuesday and the reunion is likely to be the precursor to a return to England before Christmas.

The Ivory Coast striker, currently playing for Chinese side Shanghai Shenua, wants to train with a  Barclays Premier League club if the Ivorians qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Chinese season ends in November and 34-year-old Drogba will need to stay in peak condition for the tournament, which is to be staged in South Africa starting on January 19.

Drogba left Chelsea three months ago having helped Roberto Di Matteo's team to Champions League victory against Bayern Munich in May.

Emotional ties run deep and the striker is sure to ask manager Di Matteo first if he can join his former colleagues at the Surrey training ground.

Intriguingly, there are suggestions in China that a boardroom power struggle could change the financial landscape at Shenua, which might mean premature departures for Drogba and former Chelsea team-mate Nicolas Anelka.

Drogba's visit yesterday was a flying one. He was on the way to the Ivory Coast for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Senegal and changed planes in London, where his children are still at school. Yet he made time to call in at the Cobham training complex, which is 10 miles round the M25 from Heathrow.

Drogba is planning to follow the example of David Beckham by training with a top-flight club, even if there is insufficient time for a short-term loan similar to those arranged for Thierry Henry or Robbie Keane.

Beckham joined Tottenham for training purposes only, while Henry went back to Arsenal and Keane signed briefly for Aston Villa to play when the Major League Soccer season ended.



Drogba would only be permitted to sign for a club when the transfer window opens on January 1 - a mere 19 days before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations. If Ivory Coast were to reach the final, Drogba would remain in South Africa until February 10 at the earliest, after which he would be expected back in China for the start of their season.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Petr Cech admits he has a watchful eye on the rapid progress of Thiabuat Courtois and the two goalkeepers will clash when Chelsea play Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.

Belgian keeper Courtois, 20, is a Chelsea player on loan at Atletico for a second season and earmarked as the long-term successor to Cech at Stamford Bridge.



Cech said: 'When you know the new keeper who is coming, it's better to know the way he plays. It's always interesting to see the other keeper playing so, if I have the chance to watch his games for Atletico, I do.

'He's one of the biggest talents in Europe at the moment. That's why the club paid the money for him and it's great to have the opportunity to have him here.'

Chelsea paid £7.9million to sign Courtois from Racing Genk last year. He has impressed in Spain, helping Atletico win the UEFA Cup and, on Friday in Monaco, has the chance to remind Di Matteo of his ability. UEFA rules mean Courtois is allowed to play against the Blues.

'It would be great to go there and win the Super Cup,' said Cech. 'It's important because we want to win every trophy and this is a very prestigious cup. 'This is the first time for me and for everyone involved and we want to confirm our position of reigning European champions.'
