Just want to clarify. The lower the exchange rate, the better right? What's the best rate at the moment?

Added on July 13, 2012, 10:38 pmIf you are looking for a super affordable hostel in a relaxed area of town, I would recommend U-Baan Guesthouse located near the Wong Wian Yai station in Thonburi.

Currently the best exchange rate I've seen is 10.12 at Best Rate, Sungai Wang. I saw one with 10.10 but they ran out of THB. Has anyone seen any better rate?

Hi was wondering if the said rate is for RM1= Baht 10.12 or RM10.12 = baht 100 ?
I got mine in BKK for Rm1 = baht 9.92

Added on July 17, 2012, 11:02 pm

Were you going to MBK? I encountered the same. Tuktuk offered 20baht to go MBK, so friendly and all then half way he stopped at roadside and begged me to go to the gem store coz he will have petrol/voucher given, begging me to 'help' him. I read so much of the gem store scam online so I stood firmly I said no a thousand times and ignored him. Then he started scolding in Thai and threw us out. Almost every cab we flagged had eyes lit up when I said MBK (all wanted to make that stupid gem store stop). In the end I offered a cab 100baht and made him promise no stupid stop.

Do share your story with us!

RM10.12 =THB100

it's probably the similar rate you got in BKK

Hi,i will go to bangkok on next year~ hv to start do some research and planning everything...any nice place must go to visit? this is my 1st time travel to bangkok...i heard my fren said that there ppl treat u unfriendly if u dont know thai language..izzit? they dont know english so how to communicate with them? must follow tour cant walk myself? thanks~
*
Not really, you can speak to them in English but try to be as simple as possible. Use keywords instead of long sentences, especially if you're talking to an older person. It is also helpful to learn some basic Thai words. Thai people are usually shy so if someone walks up to you and speaks in fluent English, you should be suspicious. Do not tell them where you're from and if this is your first time in Thailand. These are usually, if not always, scammers. Not necessary to follow a tour. I did all the visiting by myself.

I budgeted RM800 for 6 days and 5 nights and ended up with an extra of RM120. Went by train. Long journey but fun!

You can try U Baan Guesthouse. Rooms start from RM21. Very clean and near the BTS station. Away from all the tourist.

I'm going to Bangkok for 10D9N.My itinerary as below:

*I wanted to go for the River Cruise Chao Phraya, should put on which day ya?
*
You should also try the Taling Chan floating market. Less tourist, more locals. As for the river tour, you can just pay about RM1.50 for the public boat and do the same thing cheaper, probably minus the tour guide.

got me tix for next month, a last minute impromptu trip doh.gif
now hunting for accommodation, anyone stayed at Heritage Hotel b4?
how's the experience?

or anyone can recommend me one?
this is my criteria:
Budget per night: less than RM150 w/ bf per night
very near to BTS
Must have free wifi/internet in room
hmm.gif

Heritage Hotel kinda fits my criteria, but there's mixed review of it on tripadvisor hmm.gif
*
With that criteria, you can get a decent hostel for less than RM50/night unless if you other criterias like breakfast, swimming pool and etc

Hi all ! smile.gif

I have been doing some research online for the Bangkok Chao Praya River Cruise but most of them are just based on their own website or other commercial ones. I was wondering if anyone here that could give advice on the cruises available there? Thank you biggrin.gif

You mean the Chao Phraya express boat? The cheapest way to tour the river is by taking the public express boat. You also get to mingle with the locals!

You can try U Baan Guesthouse. Very cheap and basic but very clean hostel. 5 mins walk to Wong Wian Yai BTS station. Away from all the busyness and tourist. 3 7-Eleven nearby and lots of food nearby. I've stayed there and I loved it.

hw abt thai power plug?
same as ours?

If your one is the 2 pin small rounded type(typical handphone charger), then you are fine but if it has 3 pins, rectangle type(typical high powered electrical item, eg. iron), it won't fit. Their 3 pin is the flat type.

Guys, could i know where can i download Bangkok Map right now? Tourist map in internet, so that i can print out and see it more clearly. The important things : i can plan for my coming Bangkok trip. biggrin.gif

Kindly please assist me.

If you're looking for a good map with attractions clearly marked, get a Groovy map which can be bought from major bookstores like Kinokuniya, Borders and MPH.

Also if you're going to a floating market, I would recommend Taling Chan. Not many tourist and lots of locals go there. Not very big but authentic.

If you really want to experience the local life, you should take public transports like the river express boat, khlong san sap, public buses and the motorcycle taxis. You can also try the tuk-tuk but there's a risk of getting ripped off unless a local flags it down for you. Avoid good english speaking people. They're most probably, if not surely, scammers. Also not to forget the BTS and MRT. Lots of traffic jam so taxis are not really my thing. Didn't even take one when I was there recently. Did a lot of walking too.

There was a show called Scam City on Nat Geo yesterday at 10pm. Probably repeats today or some other day. It was on Bangkok. Interesting for those who plan to visit Bangkok for the first time.

Guinea Pig of Airasia's move to Don Mueung Airport result :

Pretty damn smooth. Queued for about 45 minutes to past immigration when arriving, but only 15 minutes when leaving. No problem with navigation, the place is pretty straightforward.

Taxi from Don Mueung to my Hotel in Sukhumvit 41 took me roughly 30 minutes, and 280baht (including 50 baht airport fee). But going from my Hotel back to the airport took almost an hour and 350 baht. (Bangkok traffic jam is seriously scary)
*
I thought there is a train from Don Mueng to Bangkok town, across the highway connected by a pedestrian bridge?
