Hi Guys,
Need a new laptop

1. Preferred Brand - Value for money

2. Budget - 3k - maybe can add abit more

3. Usage - Office software, Gaming, abit of Photo-editing & designing, Portability and battery life would be preferred.

4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 13"-14"

Having said the above, I believe Sony Vaio S series (can on the fly swap graphics card to save batt life right?) seems suitable for me. Suits my budget, small, light and portable. Is the performance able to play games like battlefield 3 level? This is the model I am looking at: SVS13116FG

On the flip side I am also looking at the Y580 but its bigger & heavier no?
I do move around alot..

And on top of that, I read that its best to wait for end of this month to see new laptops coming out/price drops for current laptops.

Things to look out for is the Y500? What about sony's new update to the current SVS13116FG I am looking at?

So what should I do? I guess I can wait till end of this month. Roughly when we will know?

That's asking a lot for your budget (assuming RM1200 here).
Closest would be:

Asus A43TK-VX024 , AMD A6-3420M + AMD HD7670M@RM1399, 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS

Pretty much these
15.6"
Asus N56VZ-S4079V, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1920 x 1080) + BluRay@RM3599[Bang&Olufsen], 4GB, 1TB, W7HP, subwoofer and backpack

Lenovo
Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M + 1920x1080 @RM2999[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HBasic, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty, P950 headset

15.6" notebooks are mostly pretty poor in terms of battery runtimes in return for uber performance, so you might want to compromise a bit on that aspect

Depends on what you want...
If you want a pure gaming machine, the Asus G55 and MSI GE60 would be better picks, with more powerful GPUs and FullHD screens brows.gif

Acer m3 has built in battery. Will it be having any problem using it in long time?
*
Most thin-and-lights have built in batteries nowadays nod.gif
Battery lifespan is muchly dependent on the exposure to heat, so yes, the battery will degrade faster, especially if you are constantly putting the m3 on load or is using the m3 in hot environment nod.gif

Lenovo [Ultrabook]S400, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2099[1.8kg], 4GB, W7HB

Toshiba

If you are willing to sacrifice a little bit of HDD space for faster performance, then the HP Dm3 (Folio 13) would be a good pick since it runs on a full SSD (although it might be an earlier model)
If you're looking for most bang for buck, the Lenovo S400 would be the best pick nod.gif
Otherwise, its just a matter of personal preference on design and user friendliness~

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a laptop, for girl use. Would prefer it to look sleek and light, but would not want a ultrabook processor if possible.
Looking for something like ASUS U36SG. Are there any successors to this model? Seems like it is stuck at the 2nd gen Core processors.

I have taken interest in ASUS Zenbook, but still seeking advice from sifus here for more options as I would prefer standard voltage CPU.
Thanks in advance!!  notworthy.gif

Tq sifu PFTJ,

U have read my mind despite forgetting to put full SSD in the requirements. I am afraid the normal HDD might go kaput earlier compared to SSD due to portability during usage.
Anyway, is there any significant difference for office work in term of Sandy Bridge VS Ivy Bridge?
Tq again for the recommendations.

HDDs are not that fragile la haha laugh.gif
Even if they kaput you could always put in your own SSD which is probably much cheaper and offer much more space during that time brows.gif
Nope, for normal office work, you won't be able to tell the difference at all between SB and IB brows.gif
