If you want a relatively light laptop with good battery life, yet capable of some decent gaming performance, then the K46 would be a good pick..
If you want a standard notebook with good CPU performance then the A45vd would be better, though you might want to consider the much better A45vm at the same price
test on K46 - the battery life surprise not as good as expected If you want a standard notebook with good CPU performance then the A45vd would be better, though you might want to consider the much better A45vm at the same price

1. Preferred Brand: Asus/Acer
2. Budget: (1) Around 2.1k (2) Around 1.5k
3. Usage: Work (MS Office), Web browsing and decent battery life (not too important if overlooked) and occasional light gaming (not too important, just good if able to)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14/15.6
5. Extra: Hopefully a Core i5 and no problems on overheating
Thanks Sifus
1 question, are all the computers going to receive Windows 8 when it's available if purchased at this time?
