hi, need some suggestions from the sifus here. I want to buy new laptop to replace my old acer ASAP:
1. preferred brand: none, as long as its durability is good and also has a good after sale services.
2. budget 2k-2.5k
3. usage: photoshop-illustrator-dreamweaver (often doing multitask with those three), gaming such as fifa12, cod, and so on. but I don't mind too much to play game in mid or low quality. oh, last one, I intend to learn on 3d animation, so I think need to consider it as well biggrin.gif
4. screen 13"-14"

additional
* prefer intel proc rather than amd
* if possible, lighter weight will be a good point

thank you very much in advance smile.gif

Hi all,

I'm looking for recommendations for a light and slim laptop for the misus.

Brand: Anything but Acer
Budget: RM 2.5k-3.5k
Usage: Office work, documents, Web browsing, watching movie and videos online
Preferrence: Something portable, screen size 13-14"

Saw some models like Asus zenbook, Toshiba, lennova. I haven't seen dell's version of the ultra book yet.
Any advice on which is better? Is it better to get the 3rd generation Intel processor or is 2nd good enough?

Appreciate the advice smile.gif

The following are Dell ultrabooks:
13"
[Ultrabook] XPS13, i5-2467M + Intel HD3000 + 128GB SSD@RM3499[1.36kg], 4GB, external optical drive

Budget - 3.5k
Brand - anything but acer
Usage - internet, 1080 movie(through HDMI output to tv), minor gaming(dota)
Prefered- 14" and less, i7 if possible,

Recently i come across asus ux32vd and samsung series 5, but i can only find the i5 version. Anyone where i can get the i7 one? Plz pm me, thanks

If you're only playing DOTA, then the Intel HD4000 in most ultrabooks would be enough nod.gif
Apart from the Asus UX32Vd, can consider these ultrabooks geared for gaming:

14"
Dell
[Ultrabook]Inspiron 14z, i5-3317U + AMD HD7570M + 32GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2599[1.87kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm) *no VGA port

HP
[Ultrabook] Envy4-1043TX/1053TX, i5-3317U + AMD HD7670M + 32GB SSD + 500GB HDD(5400rpm)@RM2599[Beats][1.75kg], 4GB, W7HP

Samsung
[Ultrabook] 5 series 530U4B, i5-2467M + AMD HD7550M + (16GB SSD + 1TB [5400rpm])@RM2999[1.84kg], 6GB

GPU-wise, the AMD HD7670M is the most powerful of these lot nod.gif

Hi sifus, wanna ask for recommendation with following aspects:

1. Preferred Brand : Dell (others are acceptable too)
2. Budget : Rm3500
3. Usage : Little gaming (Good audio and graphics)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : Prefer an ultrabook, 14' screen size is good

Did some researches, found these two which quite suit my taste :

Asus zenbook prime

Dell inspiron 14z

Which one is more worthy? Or any better recommendations? Thanks a lot.
*
Assuming the ZenBook Prime you are referring to is the UX31...

In terms of graphic performances, the Inspiron 14z is better nod.gif

If comparing with all other ultrabooks, then no, its only in the 2nd spot tongue.gif
This one would be the best in terms of gaming performance:

Hp [Ultrabook] Envy4-1043TX/1053TX, i5-3317U + AMD HD7670M + 32GB SSD + 500GB HDD(5400rpm)@RM2599[Beats][1.75kg], 4GB, W7HP

Thans for the suggestion bro, think with my low budget really can't get i5 with strong GPU. Got some opinion from my frens say that E450 and i3 processor not that strong actually, they all ask me to get i5 if possible but I don't want to spend much on laptop. Just plan get 1 which can last me 1-2 year then change again, lol. But I'm AMD supporter for 10+ years back, never try on intel before. This time might break "virgin" liao,  laugh.gif
*
i5 is basically an i3 with turboboost nod.gif
The HP is considered as quite good already I would say... and the G4 has always been known for its good speaker quality

Hi Guys,

I suppose this would be the appropriate thread for asking about laptops.

1. Preferred Brand : Any brand except Acer
2. Budget : Rm3000 flexible
3. Usage : Movies, music, light gaming (Football Manager, Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : Prefer 15" screen, FHD

What do you guys think about the different brands and the different models? How are they in daily usage? How do they perform for different tasks? Reliability, stability of these brands/models?

I've read some stuff about the Dells having BSODs, the Lenovos having poor design causing high heat, and also the poor Asus after sales service. How bad do they really affect the average buyer?

Also, is it really possible to get coupon discounts for the Dells at this price range?
*
QUOTE(zellleonhart @ Jul 24 2012, 01:11 AM)
I have the exact dilemma as you (want full HD screen + light gaming + multimedia). I choose the Dell 15R with FHD + 32GB SSD Caching (RM3199). Now with coupon code Z0X576K3W513S? you can save up to RM300, around 2.9k can get. I am buying in two weeks smile.gif

The BSOD of dell is because of the graphics driver, can be solved by updating.

Why I chose Dell 15R SE over Lenovo Y580 and Asus?
-Full HD screen (Asus need 3599 which is too much for me, Lenovo rumoured to have soon, 3699)
-Decent GPU even though not as powerful, but enough
-32GB SSD caching improving overall performance
-Cheapest among all yet suits the criteria I want
-Best warranty and after sales service

I don't play games too much so 7730M is okay for me, maybe overkill too. FHD Asus N56 is too much for me as well as lenovo. Well this is just my personal opinion due to my restricted budget smile.gif
*
+1, my vote goes to the Inspiron 15R SE as well.. its quite cheap for the specs it offers~
The AMD HD7730M is not bad too, more than enough for simple gaming~
Anyway, here's a review on the unit: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Dell-I...ok.78323.0.html

4. Preferred laptop/screen size : Prefer 15" screen, FHD

Considering asus n56vz and lenovo y580 but i prefer HP because the  service center is just behind my house and they have good service..

Nothing from HP suits your requirements at this time unfortunately sad.gif
Closest would be:
HP Pavillion M6-1006tx, i7-3612QM + AMD HD7670M@RM2999[Beats], 4GB,750GB(5400rpm), W7HP

It doesn't have FullHD though...

Unless if your budget is RM5k, then you can take a look at the Envy 15 sweat.gif

Hello Sifu [P.F] T.J.

1. Preferred Brand - Dell/Lenovo
2. Budget - under 2k to 3k
3. Usage - Movie HD, A little Gaming, and AutoCad Inventor
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 14" or above

I have been following your posts for a while and i can see that you recommend Dell Inspiron 15R SE and Dell Inspiron 14R SE to most people with my budget and usage. What is the difference between the two besides the screen size? Which graphic card is better?

And i also noticed that you mentioned Lenovo Y480 in one of the posts. This model is better than the dell mentioned above?

I need a new laptop soon as i have to return my company laptop soon.

Thanks in advance sifu!
*
I thought I always recommend the Y480 for those with your budget range? brows.gif
I'm not sure what is AutoCad Inventor.. but I guess it all boils down to whether you prefer a FullHD screen + good warranty support (15R SE) or a stronger GPU + cheaper price + lighter (Y480)

Asking for a friend smile.gif

1. Preferred Brand : Dell (No Acer)
2. Budget : Rm2k below
3. Usage : Photoshop, so if can get an i5 would be nice
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 14" preferably. If can get something light and slim is a bonus.
*
Hello desktop sifu notworthy.gif notworthy.gif
If your friend is willing to go for a 13" notebook + nice and slim, then can consider the Vostro V131 nod.gif
Dell
Vostro V131, i3-2350M + Intel HD3000@RM1799[1.82kg], 4GB, 320GB(7200rpm), anti-glare, W7HB, colors: silver/red
Vostro V131, i5-2450M + Intel HD3000@RM1999[1.82kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), anti-glare, W7HB, colors: silver/red

The processor is Sandy Bridge though. Its not easy to get Ivy Bridge for that price range.

Omitting slim/ light, then:
Dell Inspiron 14R, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1999[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm)
Dell Vostro 3450 (SB), i5-2450M + AMD HD6630M@RM2099, 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm)

Other brand:
Asus A45Vm-VX113v, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M (2GB)@RM2099[2.4kg], 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP

After psycho by few friends and sifu here, i decided to top up my budget to Rm2k to get 3rd gen i5. Currently in my mind is Asus A45Vm-VX113v, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M (2GB), DellInspiron 14R, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M, Asus A55VD-VX260V/262V/286V, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT610M and Dell Inspiron 15R, i5-3210M + AMD HD7670M. Which 1 worth the $$?

laugh.gif
Psycho abit more:
Dell Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2199[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm); backlit keyboard optional

Try using the RM200 voucher brows.gif
if it works, then its definitely better than all the ones you've mentioned in terms of gaming performance icon_rolleyes.gif

So i think around 3k just a budget for him
*
Abit redundant, since i7-powered laptops are rarely not hot laugh.gif

15"
Asus A55VM-SX038V, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT630M@RM3099, 6GB, 750GB, W7HP

Dell Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + 32GB SSD + 1TB HDD(5400rpm)@RM3199, 8GB,backlit keyboard optional

HP Pavillion M6-1006tx, i7-3612QM + AMD HD7670M@RM2999[Beats], 4GB,750GB(5400rpm), W7HP

My vote goes to the 15R SE because of the Full HD screen as well as the faster mSATA HDD~ keyboard is based on those chiclet buttons found in Vostro units- ergonomic and accurate to type on~
But it can get hot too tongue.gif
