Any recommendations for Kaiseki in Kyoto for rm100-200 / pax? I see lots of recommendations for Kikunoi but their cheapest dinner is like 15,000+++ yen hmm.gif
*
read somewhere that cheapest can go down to 5000yen~8000yen, maybe you want to google "affordable kaiseki kyoto".

Hi,

is there any charges using ATM debit card in Japan? Or can we swipe using ATM debit card? 0_O
*
i think RM10 or RM20 every transaction using the PLUS service, you have to go local ATM activate the PLUS service (using my maybank debit card for example). if want to swipe, can use right away, but depends on your default limit, maybank card purchase limit defaulted at RM500, max RM5000, also can change it at ATM.

n ichiran..well..hot is not reali la..i took 4x..but on the second serving..its den grew spicy..for MY standard, i think double is ok
*
i tried only normal portion, to me already can match normal portion nasi lemak already leh, i prefer half portion. can't imagine 4x lol.

i suspect it also depends on the branch, i went to kichijoji branch, only japanese menu provided, and seems only japanese go in to eat. hmm.gif

also i recommend slightly harder noodle than the normal cooked noodle (one level harder next to normal).

@milkytime

i was traveling around the tokyo city and i even drink inside subway train once lol, i think someone stare at me for a while, but another young japanese guy hop in with a dripping wet cup due to the iced coke inside, worse than my bottled drink with cap that i close after every single sip. being rude if drink water when walking? nobody cared every time i did that, but i made sure i close the cap when i stop drinking. now you mentioned it, i never see any japanese drink while walking, but doesn't mean you can't drink when you walk along the street! just stand aside and drink. biggrin.gif

for asking direction, my friend doesn't even speak a single japanese word and yet people there are so willing to give him directions. i've even heard some bring you there in person even if it's opposite to where they're heading to. so far i planned my trip pretty well and i use GPS so it was pretty smooth to navigate around.

i don't think japanese are impatient, just that they're very fast paced and our speed is slow to them. also must consider that you have to speed things up when there's a long queue. japanese are very well mannered and they'll queue up even the queue is long and like an hour or more to wait, usually waiting for a nice meal. so people will not linger, eat, finish, leave. i like this culture very much as people are more considerate. in fact, all the hotspots i went to, people will not linger at one place for long time when it's crowded, it was very pleasant to take nice photos there as people act fast, and likewise, i act fast too to let other people take pictures etc. in malaysia? hehehe, very common to see people taking their own sweet time taking up some spots and simply don't want to leave even seeing people also want to use that spot to take pictures, or see the view, etc...

generally, i think tokyo center (chuo-ku) people are much more fast paced. i went to kichijoji which is 30mins from tokyo center, for their stunning sakura view at inokashira park, people there are slightly slower paced and more friendly and "colorful". love this place very much!

Hi guys...i'm going to Japan at the end of the month, staying in Tokyo for a few days, and would appreciate it if any of you could let me know any clothing brands that are worth getting in Japan?

things like, cheaper in Japan than anywhere else, or things unique to Japan, or even things that are only available in Japan.

Thanks a bunch! can't wait to go liao biggrin.gif
*
clothing i not expert, but in general there're shops that sell nice cloths along any of the shopping street for low price, typically going for 1000~2500yen, some even down to 500 yen. but i saw mostly ladies, didn't really see a store selling guys cloth. hmm.gif

but you cannot miss all the nice food there. you can basically say ANYTHING is nice. even the pineapple also 100X better than malaysia, freakin juicy sweet and fine textured without a single hint of sourness.

YES, cheaper than AA if you compare and book now.
On AA, RM800 (w/o baggage, CC charges, meals, pick-a-seat)

yeah, easily add up RM2XX...my first time see MAS cheaper than AA (which is on promo as well!). rclxms.gif

QUOTE(winifred86 @ May 3 2013, 12:47 AM)
anyone know that MAS will have promotion  air ticket to Osaka on this year September with budget below rm1000?

last few days I checked go and return trip only rm800, but I was late, now it return to normal price....
*
uh...hope you see the promo as of today, not sure tomorrow still going or not as it's crazy cheap... hmm.gif

QUOTE(estcin @ May 6 2013, 11:54 PM)
Can check the terms n conditions for the tax and surcharge, not much iirc. But Hong leong promo still have to stop by Hong Kong which can be waste of time for few hours.
*
then might as well go for direct booking with MAS. oh and if compared to osaka flight, no comparison at all, RM2000 before tax+surcharge vs RM19XX after tax+surcharge. flex.gif

how much savings required actually? what is certified-true-copy of the bank statement?
I have FD, also photocopy rite?
*
i think the FD also need to be certified by the bank.

easiest is to print out from your online banking website (of your account), and bring to bank, ask them verify, sign and chop (correct word is "stamp", oh my english! lol). i think FD just photocopy and do the same to verify.

I went to MAS website and proceed to book as usual. If you go to book now (I used 25th Nov - 4th Dec) the plane ticket price is still RM15, but they have increased the surcharge (now is RM962 return). Am not sure if that is still cheaper than normal price, but I know RM198 is damn cheap because my friend bought the same flight dates for around RM800 just a week ago  smile.gif
*
i actually believe that! cause when i check promo on monday, my eyes popped when i saw the price is only RM585 round trip to tokyo, and no surcharge displayed. then i check again in the later afternoon, it went back to RM13XX with the surcharge...

i thought that was a system error, but seems that i've also missed some real crazy deal... sweat.gif

i witnessed the promo without the surcharge on monday (2nd May), it lasted until about 6pm i think, only half a day. just a day before (election day), it was still normal price.

it really puzzled me that why no surcharge, my hand gatal almost want to book another flight then only decide the itenary lol, but was so sudden so i didn't do it. then i check again around 6:30pm or so, surcharge applied... =.=

i think there should be surcharge, even if they'll give huge discount. no surcharge sounds like bug to me. hmm.gif but i do hope those who grabbed that deal will turn out real. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(arsengal @ May 11 2013, 07:08 PM)
Guys, I'm starting my initial plan for my Japan trip next year. How much roughly does it cost for a month backpacking over there? I'm planning to visit the whole Japan. Is RM4k enough? Or should I allocate more?
*
if never been to japan before, better just stay around 1 place first. tokyo or osaka/kyoto is a good start. RM4000 probably can only fly to and stay a one place for a week and cheap meals daily (or capsule hotel and better meals daily). if visit whole japan (or those famous spots), RM10,000 maybe?

100yen is almost equal to 1USD, which is RM3.12 as of today (money changer rate). if you're more familiar with USD, a meal typically go for USD$3~$5 for cheap bento from convenient store (though they're much better compare to what's selling in malaysia including isetan) or chain store noodle/rice; USD$5~10 for better meal like ramen or set meal or conveyor belt sushi (want something nice like sushi bar or pork cutlet or unagi rice? at least $10 upward to $30+, or more for higher end sushi meal or wagyu sukiyaki etc).

traveling about USD$6~10 daily within same city, and not included airport to hotel transport.

traveling to other prefectures about $40 for nice overnight bus ride, or $130~$200 for bullet train...

haven't include stuffs like entrance ticket, souvenirs etc...

Just need the Adapter
If you buy any electronic from Japan back to Malaysia then you need Transformers to step down the voltage.    Because Malaysia are 230V...Japan made Adapter just can withstand 110V.  Malaysia 230V will burn the Japan electronic if you dun have any step down
*
reminds me back when only jap's original playstation are available in Malaysia, saw one at video game shop with white smoke coming out from the console after the clueless staff straight connect it to power socket and switch it on without a transformer. the console didn't explode, though. laugh.gif

MAS still offering rm1.4k all-in fare round trip to Tokyo currently, direct flight...rm1.8k? No comparison...

EDIT: AA round trip is rm900 per person, after baggage meal insurance is about rm1.2k. where got rm1.8k? that's more like 2 person before extra charges...

The check in lady told me, you go up there and then ask your neighbors to switch seat with your wife ok?

doh.gif

We asked but nobody around us was willing to give away their aisle seat lol. So we figured aiya 3+ hour flight it's ok lah.
*
well, moral of story, always shell out whatever fees they asked to choose a seat, for the reason i experienced:

1. the typical split up seatings on my recent tokyo trip when i was checking in online. luckily they actually assigned the seats even if it's random, so i quickly pay the fees and chosen seats for 2 people together.

2. a *very* polite young japanese guy asking to have his seat as displayed on the boarding pass, well, in the end he got "kicked" around 2 times until he settle on a seat - one being me mistaken the seat rows so i was already sitting in the wrong seat (despite chosen a seat!), so i politely told him that he can have my seat. and when he asked the person (where my original seat was), he got kicked again to other seats. damn my heart felt guilty for those polite peoples! i didn't really feel so guilty UNTIL i arrive in tokyo and see how polite they are, and come back to compare to malaysians again. doh.gif to avoid this happen again, unless i'm traveling solo, i'll pay for choosing a seat, and sit according to the assigned seats.
