Hello people,

I am doing research on fast food restaurants or chains that have disappeared from Malaysia.
Can anyone remember if there are other chains in the past that have already disappeared now?
like: (Shakey's Pizza, White Castle or even A&W - disappearing...)

A&W plans to close 24 outlets in Malaysia.

Maybe MOS Burger, as it had an outlet in Suria KLCC before.

San Francisco Coffee disappeared for awhile because changed management, now under petronas group of companies or something. and went downhill. Used to be good compared to Starbucks and Coffee Bean.

San Fran is good. Except that the management is... just... pathetic. Don't know how to promote AT ALL.

White castle got.. use to have in Subang Parade.. went there when i was 12 ... now im 36, do the math.... burgers so small, had to buy 2-3 sets... no wonder now gone with the winds

popeyes and carl's jr were here, disappeared, and not emerged again.

since someone already mentioned Grandy's, another soon to be gone franchise (not fast food though) would be swensens.

I haven't seen any other outlets in malaysia besides Subang Parade and Sg Wang.

Still in KLCC food court, though I can say their expansion is standstill.

Swensens still around in Subang Parade, i think. Go for ice cream, other food taste like crap

Yup, before the re-emergence, they had opened an outlet in Sega City Sunway Pyramid which was subsequently closed down.

There was a Swensens near Atria as well, back when Atria was being built. I remember because I went there once and asked my dad about the new mall they were adding to Parkson.

There was a White Castle in PJ too. I can't remember if it was near Fajar or Daya.

A&W may have downsized alot, but will never disappear one.

malaysians are a greedy lot. they prefer to pay little and eat alot. BK, Carl's, A&W, all more expensive compared to McD for the same portion food. that's why their business like nyawa-nyawa ikan even though taste wise they're way better......... The high price of fastfood in malaysia made it worse. lol

i guess another outlet that hasn't been expanding, well in my current knowledge, is California Kitchen.

There was an outlet in KLCC, but now shifted to Fahrenheit 88.

Walau since you guys mentioned White Castle, I still remember the first outlet I saw was at a mall that had this giant mechanical clown clock. Basically the clock had many, many mechanical objects that move every 1 hour and the clown was on a bicycle. I can't remember which mall though. Getting old.

but as Kampung mentioned before, California Kitchen is way too expensive.

one slice of their red velvet cake costs RM22 before tax.
