I'm on the minority here. Felt the movie rough around the edges on story and directing. You can't fault the cg eye candy fest somehow the acting and dialogues induce a fair bit of cringeworthy moments here and there. To be fair Groot and Rocket stole the whole movie while Chriss Pratt and Zoe Saldana were ok,I guess. The weakest link of all is Batiusta,he need to brush up his acting chops and can't really get behind his motivation.
Again with every Marvel movie, the villain always gets the short end of the stick.Their threat to protagonist/s always comes off empty and always end with deux ex machina ending.Man the first half of the movie was full of expository scenes that can be dull to watch.A silly fun watch but not too profound.
What's up with the overhyped Benicio Del Toro cameo, who again act as an "exposition" character who does not really expand the story. hmm.gif
Overall in tone GOTG felt a lot like Fifth Element to me.

After reading some reviews guess gonna skip this one out. Guess James Gunn had that lucky break with the last movie but couldn't innovate or rise above to what he had done before.
Honestly always had that feeling he is not exactly that tier-1 film director material. biggrin.gif

Most of the fresh score given echoed same thing. Although its fun and eye candy but its mostly been there done that type of stuff. Still not strong enough reason to skip it. There are many shitty movies deserve a pass not this one though tongue.gif

Hahaa, did my reply seems offensive? Told u the truth, I actually don't quite get that english jargon 'lowest common denominator'. I even look it up and still didn't quite know how to reply back so to be on the safe side I reply like that. Pardon me if its feel condescending or sarcastic. sweat.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

"He is a demagogue, who seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator."

The bright side...all of us are culpable of being the LCD unless we are the 1% elite who got no problem with money and influence. biggrin.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

Wife out of town and babysitting duty squarely fall on me. To avoid answering my son's same question over and over again and to get that precious peaceful downtime...took him to see the movie for the third time for him while the first for me.

A pretty lazy storytelling and weak structuring by MCU standard. Each threat/stake swiftly nullifies with an equally convenient solution. You can see how everything pan out from a mile away. The jokes felt a lot like watching a syndicated TV sitcom that can be funny at times but not impressionable...yeah I get it that it has to be family friendly. It's my personal preference in the more edgy and sophisticated humor.

I think the filmmaker aware of the story shortcomings by masking it with money shots and jokes to make up what's lacking. Only see an effort to progress meaningful character arc in Yondu as for the rest pretty much I don't care a whole lot. What's up with MCU still playing with the daddy issue angle in their movies...every Ironman movies, Loki with Odin, Wasp in Antman, etc..started to feel that's a decree in their official bible for making MCU films. Just like my experience with big corporation machine like Nestle and P&G.

The touted awesome mixtape also not that very awesome cause there's no inclination to find out more about it. Can't help but notice most of the hip TV shows are killing it in their game for using amazing song in their story narrative.

Guess they already setting up Adam and Nebula to be the wild card for Thanos downfall if I'm to remember correctly in the comic books. Then again Thanos motivation for destroying the universe can be very juvenile and don't make a whole lot of sense.

No offense to those who enjoy this movie to the fullest. Just not my jam. My loss is your gain. smile.gif
