Adobe Premiere (PC & Mac)
Apple Final Cut Pro (Mac)

I use Mac, but I prefer to use Adobe Premiere because it is cross-platform.

I like virtualdub. It's free. Not that good in edit. You can just cut and paste sections, and apply filters. There's no transitions, you can't add words, splicing audio is difficult as to be near impossible. But it does have direct stream copy. Which means your video do not need to be decompressed and recompressed, causing loss of quality.

I've been using Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5 for a year and just months ago made the jump to CS 5.5. Overall I loved the features of the editing software. Make sure you have a 64-bit operating system for smooth editing operations. Then just make sure you have met the system requirements.

I've never used older version than CS 5.

best is one thing, price is another. smile.gif

even Sony Vegas has many editions, and lousy thing about Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum that I'm using is that it doesn't max out all your processor cores when encoding the video, which IMO sucks big time.

i'm using Cyberlink Power Director. It's good but it won't work well if your PC is a noob one. hehe

also recommended, Adobe After Effects, Corel and Sony Vegas

Constantly crashing? How come? I'm using laptop as well. Asus with i5 2450m 2.5ghz turbo boost to 2.9ghz, 6GB RAM, Nvidia 630m, 500gb hdd. Windows 7 that time. Now running 8.

But mine was running just fine n reliable. I know it's scary if it's vibrantly crashing, you could lose your work! Have you updated both Windows n Premiere Pro? Latest updates ensures stability for both OS n the program.

I don't have a desktop.

I suggest power director. Its more friendly and easy to use. You just need to find the serial number to crack it. Plus, you can make a vid like a pro!

For video editing, I would say Adobe Premiere and iMovie.

For visual effect editing, I'll go with After Effects.

After Effect CS6 and Sony Vegas is a good combination of editing software.
