Hi all,

I'm an expat living in Malaysia. In Melbourne you would struggle not to find free range eggs but in Malaysia they are rare as hen's teeth!

Yes they are more expensive but relaxed, well cared for chickens have less chemicals and produce tastier eggs IMO. Ethical reasons also play a part as the conditions many battery hens live in is disgraceful.

Anyways I want to start a cafe in Melaka; does anyone have any contacts for Free Range Egg suppliers in Malaysia? Some cafes in KL I see already serve them. I want to promote their usage in my cafe.

Feel free to add your opinion or promote ethical eggs here smile.gif

In M'sia, the best "free range egg" probably what locally called " Telur Ayam kampung" i.e those chickens from the villages and roam around those villagers or the villagers compunds and the eggs collected from those villagers.. hmm.gif

I am quite sceptical about the free range eggs that are supplied by suppliers here. If you see smallish white eggs, that could probably be it but many coffee shops are supplied with two type of eggs. Both are the same sized. The really free range chicken eggs that I have encountered are all small in size. One is normal and another the so called 'telor ayam kampong' or free range chicken's eggs. As opposed to normal eggs which are brownish cream coloured, the other is all white. I suspect that they now separate the eggs in the farms and market white coloured eggs as 'telor ayam kampong'. The eggs as seen in many farms are multi coloured and I think the farms are making a fast buck out of the white coloured eggs. They scam the coffeeshops and the coffeeshops thinking they are sells it at a higher priced to the consumers for their breakfast.

It's just my opinion but it could be. I am not convinced that there are so many free range chicken eggs on the market.

You'd want to head down to Bangsar Village, the Village Grocer supermarket stocks them for retail.

Not sure about supply chain though. Weather here is not too conducive to have a sustainable supply of free-range eggs.

Hello,,,,,
Just came across your post today and interesting replies from varies members. Anyway, I am a farm owner in Penang. We sell our free range chicken egg locally for rm1.10/pc. Mostly, my customers will come to the farm to pick up organically grown vegetables, fruits together with eggs...

Just to part little knowledge about egg....
Most eggs in the markets are mass produced with lots of hormones and antibiotics through their feed. A free range chicken egg is an egg that is laid by a chicken that is allowed to roam around and is fed with grains, worms, and grass. Hence, chicken feed is very important in this context. Remember the phrase, "You are what you eat!" The same can be said for the chickens. The chemical laced feed will make the chickens and its eggs bigger. Finally, too much chemical in our body is not good for our health!

I can supply you with Organic Free Range Chicken Eggs. The eggs are from a very 'private' Family Owned Farm who started rearing chickens for own consumption.

Please let me know if you need any.

I prefer eggs that were inspected to reduce chance of eggs having the dreaded bacteria in it.

Your free range chicken might be infected.

Sorry but I personally do not trust the Asians with food honesthy. You not neccesary paying for what your getting.

Correct me If im wrong, but wont it cost a premium to actually serve free range eggs in a restaurant ?
