I don't think it will be the last. Should be another 3 or 4 devices. Already there is a rumor about an 805 Symbian Belle device.
But 808 will have a special place in the Symbian line up of device though... Like the rest before it, like my first Symbian the 5800 is still active, use by another family member as well as N8.

I just checked Navifirm and there is a new firmware out version 112.20.311. Looks like my product code is there. We skip the 112.20.310 version. I wonder whether this will fix the 3G bug I mentioned earlier?

Added on July 10, 2012, 5:45 pmThose who want to use Skype can download from here http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/downloads/S....1.23signed.sis

It does not support video calling though.

Waze ada, Whatsapps ada... Word game is Word Tiles. It is not as fancy as Word With Friends but fun enough and got a free and paid version. Free version got ads everytime you finish your move.

I use Nokia Social because it has a home widget that combines Twitter and FB. Not bad la coz you just want a quick glimpse to FB messages and Twitter messages.
Since I have two FB accounts, the other FB client I use is Facinate.

Someone over at FB said Nokia will launch special edition Pureview that will cost RM2k++.
Anyone hear about this? I would love if there is a back case that can be changed and colourful like the one they has for Lumia 710.

It is a special Symbian feature (ie alarm on although it is being switched off). Another special Symbian feature I think is Always On Clock (not for LCD or IPS screen though) that consumes little power.

QUOTE(peter32 @ Jul 13 2012, 05:29 PM)
Is there any mobile audio lover care to comment on the audio quality (via headphone of course, not the speaker) vs other better mobile devices, either handphone or non-handphone?

Thanks.

Hardly any comparison in this area.

ps: Discovered last night, read from other website.  Pureview alarm can be set, then the handphone be turned off (totally off, not the standby mode).  When the time comes, the  phone can turn itself ON, and buzzle the alarm.  It will then ask you whether you want to remain to be off or to be turned on.

So you can actually turn the phone off without disturbance over night, but the alarm still work the next day !

I remember downloading an app for my Nokia 5800 that can switch off the phone at a certain time and then when the alarm triggered I will switch the phone on. Very handy to save battery and avoid from late night call.
But nowadays rarely turn off the phone because it acts as a clock as well.

QUOTE(haley0918 @ Jul 13 2012, 06:26 PM)
this alarm feature is actually possible across all hardware with Real Time Clock chip built in.
a phone doesn't FULLY turn off everything once you switched off. the CPU enters hardware standby (not software standby) and the RTC still keeps time with very minimal battery usage (unless you remove battery or run flat).
so the remaining questions are the OS designed and availability and accessibility of this feature.

heck...even a full blown PC could be setup for this kind of alarm to turn it on with the PC left fully shutdown but power chord switched on.

Nokia Map lacks localized Point Of Interests like malsing. If I remember malsing uses free service of the community.
What I usually do, if Nokia Map does not find a place, is to check the destination I want to go with google map and then mark the place on Nokia Map.

Also, soon we will have another competition from Apple. Apple going to ditch Google Map on iOS in favour of their own mapping solution. But I don't think anyone can fight the king of search ie Google.

QUOTE(aspire2oo6 @ Jul 25 2012, 06:00 PM)
12800 is the highest if i remember it right. Nokia Drive is better because they constant updated the software but the maps are not up to date as like malsing garmin they update weekly.

Nokia drive updates 3 - 6 months only. My friend place until today show me i am no where then when use navigation it keep telling me go to the nearest road when i am already on the road

And you know la malaysia road standard every time construction construction so just imagine you reach a traffic light go straight but there is a damn construction right on the road? How? Furthermore nokia drive not like garmin you can choose alternate route

Added on July 25, 2012, 6:54 pmAbout playing HD movies. I have tried the 808 DLNA which you can stream contents to any DLNA-enabled TVs and other devices. It is a very nice feature where I can show pictures taken with Pureview, play music and videos. But I notice when playing videos that I recorded, there is shuttering. But when playing music videos I downloaded from YouTube, they work fine. Anyone know is this because of bit rate of the videos I recorded?

QUOTE(hox @ Jul 25 2012, 05:57 PM)
+1

before getting this phone, coming from retina (ip4s/ipad3) and HD screens(androids) i figured the screen will be the biggest letdown for me...but surprisingly since day one, the screen color and saturation is just impressive especially viewing photo and video (try the sample OceanLife.mp4 included in the set). ClearBlack is clearly not a marketing BS esp under sunlight outdoor and thanks goodness Nokia didn't use the crappy pentile display for 808. The only time it's slightly less perfect is when using the Sympaper and Meebible apps for reading, the text rendering is understandably not as smooth as iphone retina. Probably the font anti-aliasing in those apps are not optimized as say the great Gravity app.

One thing the 808 > iPad 3 (asides from the camera obviously) is playing HD movie, while iPad 3 struggling with non-mp4 1080 files, 808 can plays them smoothly.

Both files are MP4. I use YouTube Downloader from Pico Brothers to save video files from YouTube. Have not tried using Mini HDMI to HDMI cable.

QUOTE(peter32 @ Jul 25 2012, 07:09 PM)
I did try that features also.  Experienced some stuttering effect just like you.  But I haven't tried the youtube files.  Do you think it could be due to higher resolution, and hence bigger file transfer for your home video instead of the FLV youtube files?

Maybe its good to try downloading full HD youtube file for comparison.
I also tried to use a RM39 Mini HDMI to HDMI cable for 'direct TV display'.  It showed red ghost line all over, very poor quality images.  Have anyone of you tried that feature?

I suspect is the al-cheapo HDMI cable which is at fault.

1.) Skype used to support video calling but since it was acquired by Microsoft, only support voice. But you still have front facing camera for the old fashion video call. May be can try Fring. It supports video call, I think, but the app itself has not been updated to support 808 yet.
2.) yes.
3.) No but few share monitoring app. I use to install one called Blue on my E6 but uninstalled it few months later since you have to pay to continue using.
4.) Not so sure.

QUOTE(gsJackMin @ Jul 26 2012, 04:34 PM)
also other questions i wanna ask is :

1.) any video conference app like facetime in nokia 808?
2.) does it support whatsapp ?
3.) can do sharemarket trading (iphone has apps for this) ?
4.) can it sync contacts from iphone 4 / picture or etc?

I think that Nokia GPS lock in is quite good. Just that the technology to search is not perfected. You have to type the correct name for the destination you want to go.
Here Google has the advantage of leveraging its search technology.

QUOTE(hox @ Jul 26 2012, 06:04 PM)
actually nokia has the most advanced and complete indoor navigation technology and database at the moment except they are slow like turtle to implement it properly in their phone

Nice pics. How you got new firmware? Mine still 309. What's your product code?

QUOTE(ulwan25 @ Jul 27 2012, 08:06 AM)
yup, it is how the 808 handles dark area.. but after I update into newer firmware, the problem is still there but the newer firmware produces rather a pleasing result, by means, not that aggressive. And in the newer firmware (so far) I got no blank shots which the previous one always have. still, the banding issue is there but for me, satisfy jugak lahh lets wait for the Belle FP2 to come  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif

I am a noob on flashing device here. Do you need to download all files from Navifirm to flash a Nokia device like 808?
