private ip are used for communication within our internal network devices. while our router has both internal interface (private ip)and external interface (public ip)
our PC private ip can be seen by typing ipconfig (win cmd)
our router private ip (internal interface) can be seen in ipconfig as well (default gateway)
devices in our internal network cannot be seen by Internet as we do not have public ip, everything need to go through router. in some cases we need to do port forwarding so a device within our network can been seen in Internet, for example the DVR for our home CCTV system.
Added on July 21, 2012, 9:36 amso actually all our internal network device behind router would only has private ip whether you are using maxis or unifi. the question is actually should be "can we do port forwarding?" with maxis
